Need your HELP... removing headlights from 2005 Cooper S

Howdy folks,

Does anyone know how, or have directions on how to remove the headlights from the 2004 cooper S? My lens covers have some kind of scum on the inside and I want to remove them so I can clean them. I looked under the bonnet but didn't see any clear way to remove these without having to mess with every screw and nut.

Plus I may have to get the bonnet repainted and don't want mask lines around the headlights.

Many thanks,
Jim

The headlight units themselves are held to the bonnet by 4 screws...well 4 nuts under the bonnet. I know because mine came loose and I had to tighten them. Once you get them off, I have no idea how to clean the lenses from the inside.

Sorry, not much help here.

i may be wrong, but don't are those things sealed pretty damn tightly to keep all moisture out?

yeah, you'll have to pop them in the oven to loosen up the silicon so that you can pry off the lens. and then reapply more silicone once your finished cleaning. you should go ahead and paint the housing while your at it

Thanks all. I don't know what the seal is but inside the lens's there is a slight fog. They used to be crystal clear. I've done nothing to break any seal either. Oh well, not a big deal - just tear them out and clean them.

Thanks again
Jim

If there is a slight fog inside the lens, open the rubber things on the back that access the bulbs when you are not driving

and in a few days it should dry given that its not very humid.

Or

Take out the high beam bulb, and attach a microfiber cloth to the end of a long chopstick.
