Well, going to be getting the front headlight trim painted soon along with the areo grill installed. But I can't decide which look I like better: body colored or black. Does one do it for you better than the other? Are they both nasty? I'm going for a mean look on my MINI. Got the 17" Stilauto SR500's in a dark color and will be adding the aero grill next week. So I want to limit the shiny chrome that distracts from my vision.

I like 'em both, but I'm curious whether you like A or B better. Pardon the crude Photochop of the color and aero grille.

A

B

DAVE Do NOT Paint it solid....

Check this out... have the Chrome... all the chrome, clearcoated with a black tint....

It is sweet and maintains the chrome look... only Blacker.

Check out the Mini in this Months Sport Compact Car.... Super Sweet and it's got a satin finish... (which some SoCal peeps may already know, I wanted a satin finish for my Mini)

Good Luck!

I agree Doug, the black chrome would be the best option. I've got a couple little teeny nicks on one light surround, so I figured the paint would hide it. But a clear spray would, too, I guess. My main issue with using a tinted clear is that I'd want the whole car done.

EuroTuner had two MCS on their April 2003 cover (plus in an article). The blue car had smoke tinted headlights. This would look great on your car with the trim darkened. The car specs just said that they tinted the headlights and taillights. I can scan a photo and post it if you're interested - let me know via email racer_tom@yahoo.com .

Black chrome would look nice with your wheels. I like your dark wheels on DS. Very sharp!

Alright Mr. Smarty Pants!
if I had to ditch the chrome, my first inclination would be body color; you can't go wrong with monochromatic. Black chrome may look ok, but I can't seem to picture it on the MINI's headlights. Black chrome would be kickin' for the grill, door-handles and "flippie-door-thingie" though!!!

Go for the black chrome...if done correctly, it looks great. And you could do it to the rest of the chrome too, like the door handles and side vents. I really like the sleek look you have.

If anyone by any chance uses a gillete mach 3 turbo razor, it comes in a cool black chrome finish that would look perfect  .

Paint the headlight trim black, the chrome part IN the headlights black, and the hood scoop black. That is what I am doing.

You're going for it? Headlamp interiors....

I need to get back on that thing...

Anyone know of a Wrecked Mini that's "parting out"?

My vote would be for the clear black, or smoke tinted color, I think that would be very nice, the same finish you achieved on your wheels. Than you could also do the gas cap in the same tinited clear color and maybe even the door handles (am I getting carried away here?)
Does anyone know if there is a tint kit for the headlamp lens. The clear tint black headlamp frames with smoke tinted headlamp lenses would be real sweet.
Audi TT's have a clear smoke headlamp lense, if you have seen those, that's what I am referring to.

Black chrome is also my choice Dave. Koolmini also has the DS and everything but the chrome is blacked out – I wonder if he’s thought of this.

Well, A looks better than B, but I have to be honest, I don't like either alteration nearly as much as the stock chrome. Black hood scoop would look much better!

davbret - .....don't paint it...it's very very nice already.......if you do wanna add more to your already gorgeous car, i suggest you to get the aero skirts and it'll definitely look sharper...

I appreciate the advice people, but let's stick to the question: A or B ... or tinted clear. I like the stock facia over the aero and I don't want chrome. I'm sure many of you like it, but I can't stand it!!!! So please no suggestions to keep the chrome. Cause it going!

Thank you!
