Navigation & Audio Aux adapter for H/K MINI stereo?
Aux adapter for H/K MINI stereo?
Hi guys!
I don't have an auxilary adaptor right now, however I want to put one in asap (would be 3.5mm, not the ipod adapter).
The shop I take my mini to said they would have to get the adapter part itself from the dealer, because it's a factory stereo... But, it's a Harman Kardon stereo, maybe there is some cheaper then ($190) one from bmw?
Thanks for your input!

Alright, first off the head unit used with the Harmon/Kardon amp/speakers is the same headunit as with the non H/K system.
Ergo the same $40 aux adapter that works with the non H/K system will work in your car. (I'm not sure why your shop told you that it would be $190, but i'd consider finding a new shop to get your car audio from.) But there is a cheaper route yet:
This thread posted by BigDaddy details how to make your own aux adapter:

That's what I did in my car. The original adapter I made cost me a whopping $3 in parts. I later remade it with a ground loop isolator which cost me an additional $20 but now I can use it with devices plugged into the cigarette lighter. Works like a damn, is more hidden than the OEM adapter, and significantly cheaper.
And if you have any questions, i'd be happy to help.

...and if you're not the do-it-yourself kind of person, the $40 aux adaptor is like a 5 minute installation excluding the "drill a hole for the jack" part. You can even reach under the steering column and feel your way to plugging it into the OE head unit without removing ANYTHING.
I drilled by hole in the auxiliary switch panel located between the seats, ran the wire under the consoles (in plain language, by stuffing it under the edges) and it's worked great for almost a year now.

i followed the instructions that came with my $40 aux adaptor, which called for removing the side posts & lower plastic assembly w/ cig lighter etc. and pull the stereo to plug in to oe unit and the whole operation was still about 1/2 hour. easy
