First let me say that I like most am tired of being ripped off of my hard earned money for products that should be affordable. This product is affordable and easy to do and will save your headlight lens from getting chipped. Here is the how-to for the easy installation.
I got this film from Lamin-x

Pre-cut and packaged in sealed plastic.

Make sure you clean the headlight real good. No bug guts!!

Here is all you need to apply the film. Water/soap sprayer, plastics queege, blow dryer, razor knife.

Notice they are marked left and right. The notch is for holding the film while applying. Cut it off after you complete the job.

Peel the backing paper from the film and spray a mist on the film and the headlight.

Apply the film and squeege the water from under neath it. Start at the center and work to the edges.

Use a blow dryer to heat up the film slightly and work the fingers (the areas that won't lay down) until the film lays completely flat on the surface.

Repeat for the other light and your done. Notice the film color is a little tint of blue.
Lamin-x has lots of colored film and the clear type.

Here is a shot of the lights in the evening.

Any questions on this just PM me and I will be more then happy to help. It is very easy to do so even if your all thumbs you can do this mod. It will save your lens from getting chipped and may help them from cracking if something large hits it.

Great writeup Nobull, looks slick!

How well does it adhere around the edges? Was trimming with the exacto tricky in any way?

Whats great about this stuff is that it sticks well and comes off and can be
re-applied again. Triming was just on the tabs that you hold onto. They are pre-cut to fit so no trimming is needed.

That is kind of a bold statement - which products need to be more affordable?

Maybe this has been covered before, but doesn't the tinted film cut down on light transmission?

I like the clear though...particularly after finding that my tail light lenses have been virtually scoured by road grit this winter  ...I'm thinking that the plastic on these lenses (back AND front) may not be too scratch resistant. The film should help. Thanks Nobull!

Nothing bold about the statement...Its a fact. I order from you and pay what you charge without questioning the price. So why would you post a responce like this?? Let me run down a few prices for you to show a comparison. And I know already what the answer back will be . There are not enough MINIs on the road and that drives up costs. It cost more to manufactur the products and sell them. Well what about the Europe market?? Seems they have a better hold on prices and more items avalible.

Strut Bars for a MINI are 239.00+
For a BMW they start at 145.00+
For a Honduh they are even cheaper.
ECU are way out of line and that is just a computer program that is already developed.
Interior Chrome Bezels and accessories are way overpriced... But I bought them anyway.
Exhaust systems are a little high but not that bad.
Intakes are another over priced Item....except for Pilo's. I bought the BMP.
Rear control arms are 500.00 at some places.
And the best of the best is the SunShade for the windshield....40.00 to 50.00 dollars!!! Thats just plain robbery.

I guess as long as there are people like myself buying these high priced items they will stay high. And Peter for you to state that this is a bold statement to one of your customers is not appriciated.

Because you insinuate that we are ripping people off based on you thinking we are just making up prices due to the popularity of an automobile - when in fact it is us who are making a very meager living.

We have a staff of 4 and we work very hard each day to make many people happy and also pay quite a bit of money to bring products to thousands of Mini fans from around the world. Our first priority is you the customer and we will make every attempt to make you happy. I encourage you to ask anyone on this forum about their experiences with our shop and I am sure you will hear good things.

And without dragging this into the public forum any further, I will close by saying that if anyone feels like we are ripping you off, then I encourage you to stop by the shop so we can sit down and discuss how to run a business. I can be reached at 888.551.0025 or at peter@rspeed.net

And I will also state that I too just ordered myself a set of these clear light covers - I paid full price from the manufacturer - do I feel like I am being ripped off? Nope - I look forward to a great product.

-Peter/Rspeed

I just got a clear pre-cut film kit yesterday from the Moss Mini catalog for $40. The kit includes fog light covers but nothing for the turn signals like lamin-x offers. I can't comment on ease of installation as I haven't put them on yet.

I know that the quality of the film that Lamin-x has is better then most. It is a thicker mil. and that makes all the difference. The pre-cut items are high quality and cut right. No trimming needed. Good Luck.

Our colored and clear light protection films have a harder outer layer which allows for a thinner film, but the same strength of a film twice as thick. We call it HD (heavy duty). Competitor films are actually thicker than ours. We have designed ours a little differently for numerous reasons. One reason is that modern lights are usually plastic molds that have very rounded shapes. A film twice as thick is twice as difficult to apply without wrinkles. Very hard to wrap two separate angles (mirrors for example). Secondly, modern lighting runs much hotter than old style. Having a thinner film also allows for greater cooling efficiency of the lens. BUT if you would rather have a 40 mil clear film we can certainly oblige as it is actually available (though it is not HD). All of our products have a 3-year guarantee from defects. All we ask is that you wash & wax the film when you wash & wax the car.

Cheers

Nobull60 has HID. I'd ask him to see how the blue film fares with the Mini HID lighting.

Thank you Lamin-x,
I bought your headlight kit & had a little problem with one of the covers turning cloudy after application-I asked for help & immediately got an answer. The film has cleared up except for a few small spots & I'm sure those will disappear with the 90 degree heat next week. Now I am researching the clear bra & whether I should try to do it myself or have it installed. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Lois
