A Mini-Trip

So I found out about the Andrew Jackson Higgins Memorial a few years ago when it first opened. Who is Andrew Jackson Higgins? He was the one the invented the Higgin boats that was used in the beach landings mostly in WWII and a few time in the Korean and Vietnam wars. You can find more about it at http://www.higginsmemorial.com/Default.asp

It also turns out my Grandfather served in the Coast Gaurd as a Mechanic on a Higgins boat. His job was to take the wheel if the first one went down. luckly he never saw actual war he was training in Louisiana and was planning on going in the Pacific theatre but they had to make a change to the boats to be able to handle the salt water or something (war buffs might know what I am talking about) so while they were making those changes the Nukes were dropped and ended the war. So I thought it would be nice to take him to see the memorial.

I also credit my Grandfather for my love of cars and driving. Earlier this year I drove with him from Daytona Beach FL to Las Vegas NV then on to our home town Omaha NE a 1.5 week vacation. We drove his Buick Rendezous for that. you can see it in the first pic.

Anyway to the pics.

This was a Memorial to 9/11 it used steel from the WTC

Dont worry this Memorial was made to be walked on they let you go up and walk in the boat, If they had said I couldn't I would not even think about it.

They have bronze stars for every battle they were used in and there is also sand from every beach also.

Oh I almost forgot it is located in Columbus Nebraska
