Anybody have any advice on taking shots like this:

A few more here:
/
I mounted my digital rebel on the camera mount on my roll bar (where I mount my video camera for track events).
35mm lens, stopped all the way down to f/22. Camera in aperture priority mode.
circular polarizer to try to limit glare off the windshield, and act as a neutral density filter to lengthen the shutter speed.
The picture above wound up being a 0.3 second exposure. It looks like with a smooth enough road, the camera mount is stable enough to provide a decent picture at even longer exposures.
So... wider angle lens?
Remove the rear view mirror?
What about taking shots where I'm following another car? I'd imagine getting a rock steady shot of the car ahead would be pretty difficult though.
There's no post-processing at all in these photos, they're straight out of the camera.

I like it snid. Trying with a car in front sounds like a great idea. What do you have to lose, you're shooting digital.
As for the rearview mirror. You could paste a picture of a cop car in there.

Nice mount snid as the dashboard is nice and sharp.
I've previously posted lots of these sort of photos in the "motion" thread here. A couple of things I've learned are:
1. Shoot while you're in shadows or on a overcast/foggy day. Otherwise the dashboard refections onto the windshield are a killer. A polarizer can only do so much.
2. Anything slower than 1/8 of a second on the shutter speed was just a blurry mess. You road looks much smoother than the back country roads I was attempting which definitely helps.
3. Go wide my friend. Capture more of the motoring experience for the majority who don't know the fun they're missing.
4. Car in front photos are tricky. I prefocus and use a wide angle for greater depth of focus, pull over to evaluate sharpness, rinse & repeat. My favorite photo is in the motion thread of a CR/CR MCS that I was following/pacing. I have ~100 photos of the car that were okay to completely sucked, but that one came out great. Practice, practice, practice and thank heavens for digital.

On Saturday, I did some more "in motion" shots. I haven't gotten around to posting them until today, because I was off doing a BMWCCA event on Sunday then I had a killer migraine that didn't go away until this morning.
Anyway...
I used a wider angle lens this time.

Passing a bicyclist

Which way am I going?

We're on a road to nowhere

A MINI shoot is in the plans. Interstate passing shots seemed to work out well with random folks out there. And with a knowing accomplice I would feel more comfortable running a bit closer to the car in front.
I just need to firm up plans with the local MINI / camera guy up here and it will happen.
