Well, I'm on the fourth day of ownership and not doing too well. On day two, my transmission acts up, and on day four, my nav/computer fails completely. I have no nav screen. Totally blank. Anyone have this happen?

Fails to come on, or blinked out while on?

Mine would act flaky, especially in colder weather where it would take FOREVER to initialize the display, if it would at all. Having the dealer update the software helpd. It sometimes takes longer than other times to show the display, but at least it has been coming up in less than 30 seconds since the update.

Mine has shut off twice -> blank screen. However it always comes back on after I've turned off the car and let it "rest" for a little while. Can't explain...

That's exactly what happened to me. After resting over night, it worked all day today.

Bizarre.

Just totally dark and blank.

I restarted the car four times with no help.

I let it sit over night, and then all day today it worked fine.

Go figure!

Oh, I'm sorry. It was with the cold engine start that there was no boot up of the nav screen. It never came on.

I love mine, it has never given me any problems at all and has given me correct directions since day 1, never a screen problem, nothing.

My nav had the software update and worked well for a while. (3-Months) Yesterday I tried the "Information on location" feature and the system reset itself and the MINI logo came on. It is still not functioning properly. Time for a trip back to the dealer!

This always happens to me too! I can't get information about location. I just always get a reset.

I haven't gotten the manual yet. It is coming from the dealer via snail mail. So, I guess that maybe I need this software update. My car has a 10/02 build date and sat on the lot for awhile, as I bought it last Saturday.

So, I will ask the dealer to update the software and I will tell them about the "information about location" problem.

If it goes to mini logo at information and everything else is operating correctly then all you most likely need is a new disc. Have the dealer just try a new disc before anything else. I know myself and a few others who experienced the same problem and all of us got the same fix. My dealer did not have a brand new disc but burned one for me untill the new came in

My map has frozen once. Just a simple turning off and restarting the car fixed it.

I had the car for 7 months and then started experiencing two problems: 1. The system took almost a full minute to initialize - the MINI logo wouldn't even come on, and then it took about a minute to turn on after the car was started. 2. The Information on Location screen would reboot the system as SuperDave's did.

I took it in and they updated the system firmware and I have not had a problem since.

S.D. Go to your setup screen and set your language to English. I had the same issue after a reset. It seems that it does not know the language unless you reset it. This will save you at least one trip.

i've seen that happen on several bmw cars, 3, 5 and 7 series. the nav screen is an lcd monitor, and it depends on the room temperature. try to use the car's heating system to increase temperature inside the car. if it doesn't work, you'll have to replace the lcd monitor.
