R56 Phone address book? Where is it?
Phone address book? Where is it?
For the life of me I can't find anyplace to store phone numbers ("address book") to be able to dial the phone via bluetooth. Anyone know where it is?
My phone (Blackjack) works fine with the bluetooth but can't sync names and numbers. Where's the address book hiding?

I have a Blackberry Pearl, and no Nav. With the car audio on and the phone BT enabled (I see Mini as a paired device) in the car I hit Menu-Phone and get choices on the screen. One is A-Z. Then I can use the dial to select a letter and the first names appear. The bad thing is if I have 2 numbers for Scott it just shows Scott twice, I don't know which number I'm dialing, and if I select one of the Scotts it just starts dialing. I haven't messed with the address book too much I voice dial, which has to be set up by you after hitting the button that looks like a face. You say store name, then it prompts you from there. For a list of commands for voice dial just say Help after pushing the voice button.
So it sounds like the only way to store a name and number is by voice?? Maybe that's why I can't find it in the menu's, if that is the case, that is DUMB!!! Why didn't they put it in the menu's.....?
your phone seems to be doing what mine is. I have a Nokia E62
It connects via BT but no address book. I guess the Address book doesnt load or the Mini is not fully compatible with it. Any suggestions??

No... When bluetooth connected, whatever is in your phone's addressbook is in the MINI. From the home screen, go to communication. Address book is one of the options listed. Going to the A....Z will have your addressbook info.
Lynn,
Are you saying there is NO address book in the Mini?? I know about the phones address book, and accessing it from the mini. But I was under the impression there was also a separate address book kept in the mini??
So if you use the voice command to "Store Name", where is it storing it, in the phone??
If in fact, there is no phonebook in the mini itself, they are going to get a phone call from a very pissed off owner. That would be the stupidest thing I have ever seen.

No, I'm not suggesting that, because I don't know. I thought you were asking about getting the addresses from the phone. Personally, I would not want a separate address book in the MINI.

Mad TKD,
Mine doesn't do it either, becasue we have phones that are not compatible. Mine works with all the Bluetooth features, except syncing the address book. I'm ok with that, sync'ing the phone book is different on most phones, so it would be hard/impossible for mini/oem company to make that work for all phones.
BUT, I'm NOT ok with the fact there is no other means of creating a phone book in the car!!
Lyn, I would also rather have the phone sync the phone #'s, but sicne it doesn't, the next best thing would be to save some names and #'s manually. If this turns out to be true, that there is no separate phone book(separate from your phones...), it would be the only car on the planet with bluetooth technology without one, making it a very stupid decision. And if that is the case, they had better get writing a software update to make one!! ;-)

If your phone is not on the compatible list then the phone book will not load onto the Mini. I have a Motorola RAZR and it load the address book that is on my phone. Also if your phone is on the list you have to make sure the numbers are saved to your phone and not the SIM card. Below is a list of compatible phones.

That list is ancient, pay no attention to it. If you see you phone paired with the Mini you will see Mini as one of the paired devices on the phone. Do you see that? And you will see an antenna in the car's screen when the phone is paired. Do you see that? If you don't call your MA and see if he can pair it up over the phone. If you do then you should be able to access the phone's contacts list/address book when it's paired up. The address book will not be stored anywhere. It will only be available with the phone paired up. The voice dialing is a totally different feature. It is stored in the car.
I already posted this but hope this helps---
After a few very frustrating attempts to get the phone programmed to accept voice commands(voice address book) I have figured it out ( THIS IS FOR PHONES THAT load the address book w/o picking up its voice commands
LIKE MY cingular RAZR
The first command after pressing the MSFW button is SAVE NAME ( not store name)
Wait thru the suggestion to continue till it says speak now--SAY NAME, repeat name
then it will say continue again--wait for speak now...say number, say the phone number connected to the name-- it will repeat number back--
then it will say continue---it will say speak now---say number (1-10) (I suggest making a list first numbering the names you want listed-the number you speak at this point will assign the position in your phone book of the name you are working with.
then the last command after waiting again thru continue and speak now is SAVE. Name and number are stored for use hands free. EG...dial name---XXXX-- IT WILL ASK IF YOU WANT TO CALL AND SAY YES AND IT CALLS XXXX...
That is all it takes....bottom line --wait till it tells you to speak and be patient..its slow. Hope this helps.

Bignews,
Our phones are paired and work just fine. The problems is, although they pair ok, you can not access their contact lists, they jsut aren't compatible completely. I can make calls and receive calls thru my speakers, and voice dial #'s with voice dial. We just can't dial #'s in our phones address book. And again, I am ok with that. BUt, we should have a phone book we can setup via the memus...., just like adding an address to the Navigation, you should be able to add a Name and Number to a car stored phone book. Or even better, how about adding the phone number field to the Navigation address book. We can already dial #'s from the POI db, why not let us add phone #'s to our own addresses and dial those as well?
Emtrey,
Thanks, that's helpful. Why can't we get to thos, and create/save/edit those thru the display menu's? I know what you mean about it being slow, it takes a long time to dial a # via voice dial:
push button: beep
"Dial number"
sytem says: Please say # beep
"1 800"
System repeats #: 1 8 0 0 beep
"555"
System repeats #: 5 5 5 beep
"1212"
System repeats #: 1 2 1 2 beep
"dial"
System says: Dialing number...
Man, I could'a drove over to the guys house and talked to him in person faster!!!

that is correct for "calling out " a given number (dial number). If you follow my instructions listed above you can store numbers and then recall them by pressing the MSFW button and saying---dial name--then follow its prompts to retrieve and call a number SAVED in your address book.
My procedure in earlier thread list instructions to CREATE an address book in the car. Does not tie into your phone per se. Its an entity onto itself. However, you need your phone in the car to have the bluetooth pairing active.
Its weird but that is how it works. I used it last night and today to make calls for 4 of the 10 addresses I stored in my self created address book.

Yep, gotcha, thanks!!
So the question still remains however, WHY didn't they give us access to this "SAVED" address book via the menu's?
Kinda weird, or should I say "mini ish", don't ya think?

hmmm so your saying that we can create a address book by itself that is different than the phone book in the phone?
Please explain
Of course if this could be done i would just make a save a book for the mini since my address book doesnt load.

Emtrey,
Just tried this, No worky!!
The command "Save Name" is not recognized....
Where in the menu's are you when you say this? Not that it matters, I just tried it from everywhere, nav, from Phone, from Bluetooth, from a..z, .......
I also just re-read your post, and you are saying you have a RAZR, which is a compatible phone. Does your phones address book show up in the car? If so, maybe that's why yours works....?
I do not get any adress book from my phone.
I still can't beleive they didn't simply give us a Name Number directory (aka "address book") to enter/edit via the menu's we can then dial from. That just doesn't make any sense!!!

Oh, forogt:
MINI READ THIS: All you need to do to solve this is, add the Phone number field to the Navigation destination Address book when we enter new destinations. Then we could simply dial the numbers from there, which is alreayd a feature of the built in POI db.
I expect this to be done in the next few weeks. ;-)

I do NOT have NAV--perhaps that changes the programming. Start the sequence by pressing the top button on the MFSW (looks like a mouth speaking) and then following my instructions.
Sorry, if they did not get you up and running.

Mad, yea, that's the real problem, the fact there is no mini stored phonebook. But if they just do the below which should be doable with a software update, we would be happy. We could just add a destination (with a phone #), for each # you want to dial....
