Why Mini USA be like America Jr? aka Mini Canada?

I know Canada's Base MSRP for the R56S is higher than the US MCS MSRP but....
MSRP for vehicles is always higher in Canada for some reason....

A part of the reason their MSRP is higher might be due to the fact that
These are all standard with the MCS there:
DSC
Xenon headlights,
3rd brakelight/aka foglight
Auto Headlamps
Cold Weather Package
Multi Funcion Steering-Wheel
Autodimming mirror
Rain Sensing windshield wipers
Microfilter is standard on manual A/C

Well and their options are a bit cheaper but that's not the main rant...
Just the fact that their sport package is much better sought out..

With the sport package there they get

Sport Suspension,
17" Flame Spoke Alloy Wheels (aka lucky horse shoes)
and... Anthracite Roofliner.

Not to dispute your observation, but the 3rd tail light is not an optional fog light. The MCS optional rear fogs are located in the lower section of the tail. The 3rd brake light is centered in the top of the rear window.
MSRP may be higher because of import taxes as well as standard options.

I think the fogs may also have to be standard in Canada as they are with other car makers (honda and audi) at least in Canada.)
..sorry for the mistake of confusing the 3rd tail light vs optional fog)...But I think the fog indeed is std there?? no?

I've no idea. I had them on the order I submitted but when I got the order sheet back from my MA they had been taken off. I asked about it and that's when he told me they can't sell any cars in Oregon with them factory ordered.

However, I have seen other vehicles here in Oregon with white driving lights (fog lights) affixed to the back of the vehicle. I was hoping to get it to use when I visit some of my family that lives out in the country. It gets pretty dark at night out there and standard backup lights don't really cut it. The fog light would have added a little extra illumination that sure would have helped.

I am thinking of seeing if I can order the parts and install it myself (or have someone local for me install it).

I wouldn't be surprised if you are right though about the reason. Heck, we can't even pump our own gas here....

I meant to state why Mini USA can't be like Mini of Canada and include the "upgraded sports suspension" for another for ex. ~ $250 when combined with the sports package and toss in the dark headliner for free.
And the nicer sportshoe wheels are included with their sports pack for free.
Seems like the US gets the short end of the deal.Although BMW makes their cars together.
As I remember with E46's if someone wanted to say special order a car, in this case like 99% of mini's they could order their E46 M3 with a cloth interior as long as a deposit as made prior to order.

^^^36 year Ory-gunion recently displaced into the desert^^^

I haven't seen the rear fogs yet but if they are amber like regular fogs, that would be why. Oregon law states that no rear facing lights can be any color other than red, with the exception of turn signals (amber) or back up lights (clear).

The vehicles you've seen w/ clear driving lights on the rear have them wired into the back up light circut (if they're doing it legally anyway).

I'll plagiarize myself from an earlier thread a couple of months ago:

Oregon Administrative Rule 735-108-0076 covers the mounting of rear fog lights for motor vehicles and trailers. And therin lies the rub.

It says that rear fog lights in Oregon must be mouted at the same height as the rear tail lights. Where the Mini mount is lower than that. It also says if there is only one lamp, it must be on the left side of the vehicle, not in the center as in the Cooper.

OARs are written at the agency level but carry the force of law. It restricts the dealer from adding them but individual car owners might have rigged up an aftermarket system themselves, in violation of the law.

Sowellman, thank you for passing along the information about the light. I was wanting one basically to use a backup light but I probably won't take the chance of installing one myself. Who knows I may get stopped by an over zealous law enforcement officer one of these days and it the few times I'd use the thing probably wouldn't be worth any fines.

Thanks!

I wondered myself when my Rasmussen MA Larry told me those couldn't be ordered in Oregon. So I figured there had to be a law dealing with it and I was able to find it.

I don't think it stops anyone from installing them themselves and I can't imagine it's that much of an issue. I've never been behind a car that has one.

By the way, if you want to join in on a Mini drive Saturday, a group of Roseburg area Mini owners are going to drive to Winchester Bay and back on Saturday. We'd love to have an extra car.

I'll have to see if my wife is working on Saturday, we only have hers for the moment so I only get to drive it when she has the day off. I'll find out this evening and if she is off I'll ask her about taking a drive on Saturday.

She has to work this Saturday so we won't be able to come down for the drive. I did appreciate the invitation though!

Maybe we'll drive up toward your way on a future trip. Sorry you weren't able to join us, but I'm glad I had the chance to offer before we went instead of telling you later and finding out you were available.

On the flip side here in Canada we can't cutomize the interior as exactly as in the USA, side lens color (clear or amber), run flats or not, our pkg's include more but that means if you don't want some of the options included in the pkg you're SOL ie premium pkg only comes w/sun roof but I didn't want it but I did want OBC, rain sensing wipers and auto headlamps.

Probably has to do with the volume coming here (not as many).
