Sign up with OctaneGuy for MITM Detailing sessions

Hey Everybody,

Due to popular request, I've been asked about how people may be able to sign up for a class or to get their cars detailed by me. Because it's a 14 hour drive in each direction, I'm not planning to work till I drop every day

And of course with this being my first MITM, I'd like to enjoy some of the scenery, but because I will be working alongside Heather of DP/Prima doing demos and sessions, reply to this thread and let me know who is interested in learning about how to care for their paint the "OctaneGuy way".

This will help me plan for the sessions.

Richard

Great! I haven't checked the scheduling yet. At AMVIV it was hard to schedule "classes" because of the number of events, nobody wanted to commit to a certain time frame for fear of missing out, and it became a sort of "show up when you do" sort of thing--I just ended up doing details and letting people watch.

Hopefully atleast one session can be planned that people will attend.

Thanks!!

Richard

Great idea

If you do a late morning or afternoon session or allow a watch Richard work and talk us through a detail (not one of your 10 hour details ), I would be interested.

We can't do all the runs we like, so we will have to do our own schedules too. Should be fun.

I'm pretty sure that my wife and I would be interested in attending a session. She's got a brand new 07 MCS that we are bringing, and she's already talking about wanting to keep it in the bext condition she can in terms of detailing.

I have a room reserved for you

Richard, if you want to make it a sort of 'tech talk'. Theatre seating for 40, no charge to you or any other vendor, just let me know the time you want on Friday and or Saturday, and I will work it out.

Otherwise, outdoors at the car wash area under the beautiful blue Colorado sky.....will work fine.

OOooh that sounds like a fine idea. Let me check the schedule then. Is there room for a MINI in front of the theatre seating to do demos on?

This room is indoors

and down a short hallway. If this were a bigger room, then maybe but for now I don't think so.

But that gives me pause. Let me see what I can do.

Ooooh IC. Now I understand why you mentioned I could do it outdoors or in the "theatre", lol. I was thinking outdoor amphitheatre...

There is another alternative

which is the lower level of the parking structure. Totally shade, easy access, right where we are already.

Let me check the room I have reserved for Tech Talks and see if somehow itis 'MINI Accessible'.

I would love to get a pro demo of how to clay, and how to wax the "Octane Guy" way! Plus, I can get my girlfriend involved and maybe even excited about cleaning and detailing. All I ever hear is, "Are you done YET?"

I would be interested in the class also, and would volunteer Cousteau for the demo car.

I would be interested in the class, however I live on the east coast and would not be able to make it to MITM. Would anyone mind recording it or take some notes?

Because this post is under the 2nd Annual MITM's event--I'm asking for feedback from participants. Taking notes and still photo's are fine and encouraged, but sorry, no video will be allowed.

Richard,

I will have to cancel the film crew we had lined up (Tongue in cheek).

Let us know what gets scheduled and where.

I will be bringing with me some of the essentials like Dirt Guards & Black Wow & PC Guards and possibly some of my SCD Polisher Units with integrated PC guards, and some of my smaller supplies Hopefully Heather will have all the rest of the Prima products on hand. I will bring what I can cram into my MINI--which of course will be plenty. I will go over all the things you will need, how to use them, and why. And this will be a hands on type of thing because I don't think you can truly learn how to do this without actually doing it. Without getting overly ambitious---I know I don't have all day, I'm open to covering topics that include the basics, as well as covering things like photo documenting and other related topics towards documenting detailing your MINI. I will have my more powerful tools on hand for correcting bird poo etchings and other defects that may have been troubling you for awhile.

But to answer your question, everyone should have these basics:

Working by Hand

Clay bar
Quick detailer or clay lube
Hydro or Epic

Working by Machine

Same as above PLUS
Porter Cable polisher
Prima Swirl
DP Orange and White pads

Well, this is all beyond me. Hence, I'll certainly attend any class you offer. Just tonight I was wondering if I should use touch up paint on a tiny chip done by a neighboring parked car . . . and I noticed for the first time the adverse effect of not removing a bird dropping until the weekend! As the car ages (I picked her up September 2005) I'm relieved to be less particular than I once was about each blemish . . . still, I can't image the Heart of Gold looking like my wife's 2001 Saab (a well maintained, frequently washed and waxed vehicle). I need to snap to the basics . . . what maintenance, what quarterly restoration . . . what repair . . . and when to do the plastic surgery!

I'm not sure my car yet needs the professional do over until after I screw it up.

Bird droppings will permanently etch your paint in seconds. When it's left on for days, it can go straight through your clear coat, and the only repair is to repaint it.

Touchup paint needs to be done carefully, otherwise it often looks worse than the chip you're trying to hide.

A properly maintained MINI can look better than new day in and day out with just a little bit of care. It sounds like your MINI might need a little bit of TLC to restore your original love that's waned over the past few years!

You can use the BLUCOOPR coming from Charlotte NC, she should be pretty dirty especially if we hit them storms like we did last year in Kansas. I told someone that Kansas was the only place where you could stand in mud and dust blow in your face! Luke

Haha, I don't need a dirty car! I need a clean car with lots of swirls!
