Some of us had our R53s (unvoluntarily) taken away from us...why would I turn down a more comfortable ride, more power, and better gas mileage for an R53 that I can't custom order anymore?

You know what I am tired of... R53 drivers trying to put down the new R56. I love my 2003 MCS but the new 2007 models have their place as well. When our R53's where out I am sure we will be replacing them with an R56.

I have said it before and now say it again.
The R53 will be the classic of the BMW MINI line. The gritty little bugger that appeals to to the people that were so excited when it was first rumored and waited for it's introduction and release with baited breath.
Remember the outrage when it was announced that the suspension was going to be softened up on the 03 models. That practically took the wind out of my sails and I wrote MINIUSA a terse note in protest.
Man just look at what our real tuners are coming up with today. Yes it has taken awhile after all that flash stupid stuff. Some of you know what I'm talking about here and just recently got tired of having your wallets mined by unscrupulous vendors for bolt on junk that did zip.
Problem here is that if you try and tell someone they are being taken you get tagged as a hater or attacked by the fans.
IMHO the R53 is the platform to have and to keep, end of story.

You forgot to mention that the R56 is simply ugly.

I am an owner of an R53- in fact I searched for the R53 I wanted from the ones that were still at dealers and drove 4 hours to get my MCS, BUT I think it's silly to tear down anyone's R56 or anyother MINI out there. What's the point??? It's great you love your car, I love mine but is the love someone feels for their R50 or R56 or R.. any less worthy? I don't think so. These cars have inspired a new wave of enthusiasm and enthusiasts so who are you, or we to stand in the way of that?? Love your car but don't tear down another for sharing the same love for theirs.

As someone who is in the market for a MINI and has loved Minis my entire life, I am going to be getting an R53 over an R56 because I just think the new ones are butt ugly. They hit recreating the Mini extremely well with the R53, I just prefer them over the newest gen...even if the newer ones are "more refined".

This is madness. A mini is a mini is a mini. We all are apart of the mini family and we should learn to get along. I know once my R53 is gone (hopefully not any time soon ) I will check out the R56.

After seeing them in that mini commercial with the banjos, they do look really nice.

Besides, we need to join forces and hate on SUVs.

Spider, I know you posted this in jest with tongue firmly in cheek but I've seen things like this ruin meaasge boards. It turns a fun, idea sharing, good spirited place into a competition of oneupmanship where the only solutuion is the drop trou and get out the ruler-pretty silly! Would you want your Grandson to read your comments and think it's OK to declare someone less than you because they drive a different car?? That maybe harsh but think it over.
I've enjoyed this site and have received a lot of very good advice from the members and I sure would hate to see it turn into something else.

You know what's not fair? With any other classic car you can spot it a mile away. With pre-2007 BMW designed Mini, for most, there's no difference at all except for the talk.

This is what people say when they realize they spent 10k+ on mods only to find out that the new R56 is just as fast as their modded R53

If I buy two r-56s, will I have an R squared one twelve?

And remember, the automotive world entered this death spiral when the 911/912 replaced the 356 SC (which was, of course, the last REAL Porsche). I lived through that one, I'm guessin' I'll live through this one.
