Hairpin anyone! Tight Windy road

so the other day i was driving and came across this road so obviously i decided i would drive it a bunch. Then i called my friend (RX-7) and told hom to bring his camera; so he did. The result <link deleted by Edge>

oh and we are both just learning, so don't make to much fun.

So what were you "learning?" Were you learning how to cross the center line on blind curves and lose control of your MINI in the rain on a public road? That is not fun, it's just stupid and irresponsible.

If you guys want to learn you need to do it in a safe place, a race track.

Your video is a good one of how not to drive on a public Rd. Wonderful road, stupid behavior.

A visit from the local Sheriff would've made your video great.

well it is safe, we have other friends at the ends of the road with radios, making sure no traffic come up or down the road.

At least edit around the sections where you drive past mailboxes...

We don't want to dampen the enthusiasm of drivers, but, there is a better way to play with cars. Find some car control clinics / driver skills schools. The BMWCCA puts together lots of good instructional stuff that pretty cheap in the world of performance driver education. Get to some autocrosses where you can drive at 9/10ths much more safely.

If you can't stay on your side of the yellow line that is a big clue that you need to slow down. I hope nobody saw you because as a MINI owner I am embarassed for you. Also you claim that you had friends with radios making your idiot driving safe. What if someone had pulled out of one of the driveways that you were sliding by? Did you have freinds with radios stationed at all those houses too

Bad idea! If you are still learning how to drive, start with less twisty, DRY, roads. Take them slow, maybe even below the speed limit, then as you master it at the slow speed, slowly increase it until you reach a speed that is still safe for the road (within the spirit of the law.) Then goto a harder road, repeat the process. The road shown in the video shouldn't be motored on until you can run any other road in the area with your eyes closed, especially if its wet.

Having unauthorized people with radios "making sure" no other traffic comes down the road sounds illegal to me.

Good point. We should be embarrassed for all of us. That kind of driving is not what the MINI community stands for.

Your profile doesn't say where you are located. It would be nice to have a heads up for everyone near you. If you happen to be in the IL - WI area the BMWCCA is having a driver school on June 29 at Blackhawk Farms Raceway. The novice class is full, but, perhaps you could arrange to sit in on classes and watch. Couldn't hurt!

unsafe driving for the loss

you really should take some HPDE or autox. you'll quickly learn that it's not the ebrake that makes the MINI go sideways, it's speed... a speed that is NOT recommended for street driving

ok i understand, i prolly made a bad call, with the driving style/ safe factor. Regardless i know i need to do autox and some school, it was just one time on that turn. I am sorry to cause a huge uproar by driving "unsafely"; granted i prolly was. but the fact still remains that the road deserves credit, and this was the only evidence of it. sorry if i offened anyone, by driving fast/ over the lines.

Those roads looked fun to drift in, but its pretty hard with a front wheel drive car. Your friends Rx-7 could do it with practice. But I would have to agree with everyone it was unsafe.

On the street, the challenge is to go quickly while always staying within the lines. When you get better at canyon carving, that is the real fun.

On the track, you are going much faster than the street and you want to use the best line no matter where it is.

On the street, you very often can't use the "best" line - that's the challenge. Cutting across the double yellow line is laziness. It's much more fun to not do that. Quicker transitions, more "G" force, it's what the MINI excels at.

Doing twisties in the rain IMHO can be a good learning experience for how you and your car will handle less than ideal traction situations - but you gotta be doubly careful!! DRIVE SAFE!!

I for one accept your explanation. Doing it was unsafe & not smart, but posting it on the web was even dumber. Saying you weren't proud of your little video is laughable. Why else would you post it?

Like has been said stay in your lane, that requires skill too. Hit the autocross & learn some car control. You'll be a better & safer driver for it. Be careful out there.

Motor on.

Sorry xkot, I agree with everyone else. Looks really immature. Besides, I would be embarrased to show this to the world. If a rouge cop in your area sees this, it makes great evidence to give you a visit.

IBTIL

p.s.: this is a REAL drift. It was much faster than what you were doing, and I recovered just fabulously. Also notice it was on a DRY track, and not resorting to the rally handbrake technique. HINT HINT

OK, so it looks like you enjoy driving your MINI.

Your video reminds me the Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift- in the practice sessions run after run.

Best place for practice is at autocross school like Evoschool or at other High Performance driving schools with instructors.

Got to be safe and not really worth risking damage to your MINI or yourself or others when using public roads.

Here's a video I liked much better with some fancy driving/shooting-

xkot,

That video link is totally inappropriate here on NAM. Videos posted should represent legal street driving or racetrack driving. Blatantly crossing double yellow lines, spinning out on a public road, and demonstrating other kinds of stupidity in a situation that is potentially very dangerous to the general public isn't tolerated. I have removed the link from your post and every post that quoted it.

Warning issued.

As I said in the warning I issued, you should take a moment to re-familiarize yourself with the NAM Site Guidelines, and particularly guideline #5 in this case:

LEGAL
Posts relating to street racing, excessive speeding, or violations of other laws are prohibited. If you want to race, take it to a legal venue.
