HOO HAH! I dodged a bullet!

Coming home from work tonight. Two SUV's in front of me, side by side waiting for the light. Me behind the right hand SUV, chilling to NPR.

BAM!

Kid in a Dodge Intrepid goofing with his buddies and not paying attention, didn't see the red light and stopped traffic. Swerved just enough to hit both SUV's and gently kiss Gromit.

I wasn't even sure I was hit, but this is all I found:

I didn't have a camera at the scene, this was taken after I got home.

The three buddies of the kid booked, leaving the driver to face up to it, which he did. I'll give him credit for that.

Whew!

Wow...that was a lucky break for you, Jim! BTW, that tire looks a tad worn...

Only the outer edge. Funny how that happens in an autocross. When I erase them properly, a new set of Falkens.

Foot he says? FOOT!

Just a little buggered plasitc and a paint blemish. I'll have Niello fix it on the insurance.

Not that I could tell. He had three friends with him and they were being clowns.

His buddies got out, walked off and left him.

His dad showed up while we were waiting for the cops, and tore him a new pucker.

@ Dad for planting his foot squarely in son's a$$. More parents need to do that when the children act stupid at the expense of general society.

@ Gromit for taking one to his.....errrr....chin ~with only minor damage.

@ it happening at all.

Sucks that it happened but this is a great opportunity to try out a "cutting" polish to buff out the scrape! (how's that for optimistic)

Oh yeah, next time could you give us a more detailed diagram (sheesh!)

This was maybe a 20 mph impact.

The SUV (Bronco) in front of me had it's left rear portion of the bumper twisted under, but driveable.

The other one (4Runner) had it's right rear wheel well and bumper caved in, and the guy had to hammer the body work away from the tire so he could drive home.

The kid's Intrepid has the left front corner mashed in around the tire, and the nose and hood slightly smooshed.

Good to see that the damage was not worse.

Some BlackWow from OctaneGuy might clean that right up, once any scratches are taken care of. Some wheel cleaner, glass cleaner, a good polish, claybar, wax and some Hydro and Gromit will be looking good as new, or better.

Looks all pretty cosmetic, but I need to make sure the supporting metal under the trim didn't get dinged. The trim is not lining up as well with the lower trim like it did before the boo-boo. Also hard to see in the photo, is how deep a couple of the gashes in the pastic really are.

Dang. That would wake you up! If he were over a couple of feet that wouldn't have been good...

Thank you all.

Shoot, a few more milimeters would have required body work.

UPDATE

A bit more damage than originally thought!

The adjuster was just out, and he showed me where the fender was slightly bent inward. Very slight, but it's going to require some body work and repainting, new trim pieces, and stripes reinstalled. Might even get some rock chips taken care of in the process.

Going to be more than my deductable, which I'll get back anyway.

I have a sinking feeling though, I'll be without Gromit for a few days.

EDIT: THEY'RE WAIVING THE DEDUCTABLE! YAY!

Sorry to hear about Gromit's accident. Glad it didn't do anymore damage than it appears. Who's your insurance co? To waive the deductible is way cool! Also glad to hear that the kid's dad gave him a dress down in public.

AAA. Costs a little more, but always worth it.

Just was notified that AAA already cut the check. At least they're not giving me any problems, in fact they've been great.
