Hi, based on the recommendations I have read here on NAM I want to install an AFE CIA in my '06 Mini Cooper. Will the installation of such a device as a CIA setup in a Mini Cooper raise a flag on the Cooper's warranty?

The only thing an after market mod should void is the part you are replacing. For example, if something happens to your transmission, your choice in intake shouldn't matter.

Good choice on the aFe. Be sure to get the UPDATED version of the heat shield. The previous 06 shield has an issue with rubbing on the manual transmission's reverse light switch.

Not true. Mods could impact other things. See the thread re: pulley change and a/c. As I said previously, as a general rule, dealers will seek to avoid warranty work if there is a basis to do so. If you chose to mod, you had better be prepared to fight for warranty work. It's a losing battle.

Some dealers are intelligent and realize a CAI won't cause other issues and will be fine with it. Other dealers have their heads so far up their butts that anything not from them or from Mini is a no-no and they will do anything they can to deny coverage. The best thing to do is go have a chat with your Service Advisor and see what they say.

You can install a CAI without any sort of problem. I have an injen and it works just fine. I can have it off of the car in about ten minutes dealer doesn't know a thing. Besides in one of the previous issues of MC2 magazine they address this very issue. They are not allowed to void your ENTIRE warranty for the r&r of stock parts with aftermarket ones and most reputable dealers will tell you so. To give you an example I was interested in getting a JCW sound kit for my 05 MC. I called the dealer and spoke to their parts dept. I told them what I was looking for and the gal stated yes a gal. I would not be happy with the JCW sound kit. She told me about a muffler and tailpipe made by a company called powertone in Laguna Beach California. I also learned that the dealer is in fact a distributor for powertone. I went ahead and installed the components and could not be happier with the result so chalk one for the dealer for a change. So you can plainly see if you have a good relationship with you dealer everything should be AOK. Good luck.

And then if it caused issues, what would they say ... hmm, since MINIUSA has the last say, not the dealer. hmm
