R50/53 Seatbelt light
Here's a problem I don't remember seeing anyone post about...
I generally don't put my seatbelt on till after the car is started, sometimes not until I'm actually moving. A few times now I've noticed that the seatbelt light doesn't go out even after I have put the seatbelt on. I tried unbuckling and re-buckling to no effect.
Any ideas? Anyone else hit this?

Your MINI is just trying to tell you that it WANTS you to buckle up before starting the car and always before you move. Vee vill NOT have any dissenters, yah? (submit, submit, submit...
)
In case that doesn't cause you to mend your dangerous ways, you might check around to see if you can find any threads (on Mini2?) on the seat belt buckle sensor. I know that some have had it replaced as part of the airbag light fix, so it may be a troublesome part.

I got into the habit of making sure the car started before putting on my seatbelt back when I was driving older, less reliable cars. And I still occasionally have to go and get something from the house after I've started the car.
I insist on doing things my own way! Isn't that part of the MINI design concept?

I do the same, Agro, but haven't had any of those problems. Might it have something to do with the airbag light issue that's known to happen? Loose connection under the seat that can be cured by a crimp connector?

Agro, Had the same problem you describe. The seat belt light has nothing what-so-ever to do with WHEN you buckle up. That is before starting or after. The light should go out when you attach the belt to the buckle.
The dealer I went to replaced the driver's side buckle and that solved the problem. Service manager also said they had replaced quite a few others.
There is also a thread somewhere that shows how to FIX the problem with the connector under the seat from coming loose. And, by the way, once it does come loose and the light comes on it has to be reset by a dealer.
Good luck, hope this helps.

This is interesting...I know I was the one who brought up the connection between the seat belt buckle and the airbag problem; but actually the airbag problem that I know about is evidenced by the AIRBAG light coming on...not the seatbelt light (which I thought was Agro's original problem).
I'm not sure what the underseat connectors have to do with the seatbelt light. I suppose they could control the car/seat's "ability" to sense whether someone's in the seat and therefore should be buckled up. But this seems to be a bit of a new twist on the problem.
Agro, let us know what you discover when/if you go to the dealer on this one.

I'm not having any problem with my airbag light, just the seatbelt light. When I went out at lunchtime, I noticed that the seatbelt light wasn't on even before I clicked. Wierd as eggs. May be time for another call to the dealer.
I would have thought that the absence of Lucas parts would have solved the electrical problems! Maybe some MINI's have haunted electrical systems . . . . .
Mine too!
I know this is an o-o-old thread, but...
My seatbelt indicator light will not turn off. It was set off by someone getting into the passenger seat when the car was already on, but it did not go off when they buckled the belt. It's now on whenever the car is running. Looks like I'm not the first one to have dealt with this. Is there any way to fix this without another trip to the dealership?
