K&N Typhoon for 06 Cooper

Just had the K&N Typhoon installed on my 06 Cooper. It fit quite well and the red color is a plus for me. I didn't install it myself, but I did watch the install. In the hands of a very capable person, it took about 25-30 minutes and didn't look too difficult.

I have also had a noticeable gain in mpgs. After installing my Megan Racing exhaust, I wasn't able to notice any rise in my gas mileage. But now with the combination of intake and exhaust... I'm getting about 1-2 mpg above my usual (aka 30-60 miles more per tank). I have been doing a little more highway driving than usual, so I'll solidify that statement once I get back to my more routine 80% city driving.

I wouldn't be lying if I said I had been skeptical about any sort of noticeable mpg or hp increase with my mods. I figured, how much of a difference could it actually make on a Cooper. But now that they're on... I do feel the difference. It's not mind-blowing. But it is most certainly different.

And lastly, I can definitely say that the intake has changed the sound of my exhaust. Once I can get some assistance, I will be taking a new video so y'all can compare the difference between exhaust only, and intake + exhaust. My Cooper finally sounds like a monster. Just the way it should be.

For your viewing pleasure!

I have the K&N 57i intake and the Megan Racing cat-back and I love the combo. Now if I can just find someone local to do a flash, i'll be done with power mods.

Not to blow the wind out of your sails, but I had a similar MPG gain with a foam drop in panel filter. However, I had no change in exhaust rumble. Some things are priceless

I have the Megan Racing exhaust as well. It does sound much better after adding my aFe intake - which sounds awesome when you open up the throttle.

I had a drop in filter that didn't seem to help with the gas milage. The aFe/Megan combo is showing a little bit of an improvement.

Thanks for sharing!

I was originally thinking of getting the Typhoon awhile ago and had it on my "wish list". But because I won a K&N drop-in filter at MOTD last year, I put it off. I finally tried to put it on and found out I received the wrong part that I could neither return or exchange so I gave it away at MOTD this year After not much convincing, I ended up installing the Works/DDM CAI while at MOTD. very happy with it I don't have OBC so I can't say for sure if my mpg is better, but as you said, it definitely SOUNDS better

Definitely post some video so we can hear the difference Again, thanks for the write-up and sharing the pics!

I have to agree. The cabin noise may be a bit much for passengers, but well worth it.

I would recommend the MTH tuner file to complement the Monster setup ;-)

I know... I was actually just thinking about that today after reading another thread.

Temptations everywhere on this forum. It's darn shameful.

I thought there were issues with fitting the Typhoon to 05/06 MC's. According the all the websites K&N don't recommend it. Obviously it's being done but can someone please enlighten me as I would love to add an intake to my MC.

The main reason I put up this thread was to let people know that the Typhoon DOES fit.

When I first started looking for an intake, I ran into the same problem. I thought that I couldn't install the Typhoon because it wouldn't fit. But that isn't the case. If you search the K&N website for 06 Cooper products, you'll find that the Typhoon IS listed. That's all I know...

Thanks for doing it too because the info around does seem to be conflicting but it's something that I'm interested in doing for sure.
