MINI Dies at stoplights when A/C is on!!! 0% pulley?

I not sure what is going on with my car, now. My car pulls very hard and seems to be getting faster and faster but now I have an idle problem. About 3 weeks ago I added a 0% crank pulley and ever since then my car will not idle at a stop light if the A/C is on, is this because there is less rotaing mass? When I come to a stop with the A/C on the car will idle for 5 seconds and then go into limp mode with the Service light on and the EML light. When this happens I just turn off the car real quick and the problem goes away, until the next light. If I leave the A/C off, I have no problems the car run perect all day long. I can also drive with the A/C on with no problems as long as I don't stop.

Last night I had Emil adjust my idle and raise my idle from 750 to 850rpm. The car idles much better with the higher idle but it didn't solve the A/C problem. I'm thinking there is something physicaly wrong with car. Maybe the bearings in the compressor are bad and are dragging down the car, or there is a short somewhere.

Sounds like software, see if flashing the stock software to the car fixes it? I've never heard of the compressor clutch failing engaged, usually when it fails it just slips, I guess it's possible though *Shrug*.

Did this issue develop after installing the lightened crank? If so, remove it, that's likely the problem.

I agree, leave it alone! .

I'm trying to think back, but it seems to be around the same time. At least my car idles much smoother, now that Emil has raised the idle.

I had a problem like this after the dealer installed some Dinan engine mods. When I turned the AC on, the car had trouble keeping the idle up and it would drop down below 150 rpm when I stopped at lights, causing her to shut down. Then she would'nt start! Turns out the intake seal was leaking/ripped? causing the car to idle eradically. The dealer fixed the problem though, so it didn't bother me too much.

Can you explain more on the intake seal? Are you talking about the rubber tubing that goes over the throttle body or something different.
thank you
Mario

I think it was the one that connected the throttle body to the supercharger. My guess is that the dealer just reused the same seal from the oem throttle body when I got the Dinan one, which cracked or ripped, or whatever.

I just picked up my MINI from the dealer for the same exact problem.

They told me they found the belt was slipping and the harmonic balancer was seperated. They replaced the belt and harmonic balancer, and the problem is gone.

I have heard of and personally seen a bunch of MINIs do this.. Mine typically will do it when the motor is hot and roll to a parking spot or something. If I just sit there for a second with the motor idleing it starts to stumble and alsomst sounds like it is going to die then a couple stumbles later it is back to normal idle.

If the AC is on it just intensifys the same scenario, faster to start the stumble, almost stalls, then pulls out of it and returns normal. I have yet to have my motor actually die and have lights come on.

This is interesting about the dampener seperating... I was told by a few that the rubber dampening on the stock rubber crank pully actually starts to crack, peel and seperate. This would make for an asymetrical spinning round object, that would for sure disrupt idle.

That would explain it for me with my old 10 lbs cracked rubber crank pulley, but not for Mario. He has a bright new shuny aluminum pulley on his car. ..

Who knows... One of my best friends bought one of the 1st 02 MCS over here in the states. Hes seen it all with these cars. When mine started doing it I said "look dude its doing right now" he was like shrugging his shoulders like whatever, they all do that.

I need an excuse to put on my bad *** 3% ALta pulley sitting in the back of my car. I am going with that my old heavy pully has rubber cracking and flaking off of it.

"I mean this just has to go on Honey"... "The car is really not safe without it". :p

manifold gasket maybe?? or cooler flange?? it almost sounds like it has a vaccume leak when the AC is on?? I dont know if it is possible.... Maybe there is another vaccume curicut open when the ac is on and it is leaking manifold vac from there???

Just a suggestion. (jesus, I sound like I am giving advice to someone who owns a shitbox with a carby.... "yeeh son, just slap some silicone on that there manifold! she'll be apples!")
