Some ahole already dented my new MINI!! i have only made one car payment and its already being dented. Its on the drivers side door. created a small dimple in the middle that can be seen 10 feet away. also took the paint away (some scrapes down to the metal) about the size of a dime. I swear its karma because i like this car so much, my other cars i didnt care about went years with not a scratch. anyway what can i do t fix deep scratches like this right in the middle of the door. also how do i get out this tiny but noticable dimple. i cant possibly pay to respray the whole door (color is dark silver). other thing (if i can somehow get over the scratches and dimple "believe me the dimple looks way worse than the scratches") is possible rust. could this rust anytime soon? how are these cars prepared against rust? do modern cars even rust? any suggestions?

 

Probably some R53 owner decided to gave you some lulz.... Serioulsy, sorry to hear about the dent.

 

Call Dent Wizard and let them take a look at the dent. In most cases they can take it out in 25 minutes or less. Worth a shot..

 

There are some miracle Paintless Dent Removal folks out there, flav. They can make the dimple vanish for about $60. Referrals and recommendations from folks local to your area are probably best.

As for the scratches and potential for rust, I'm sorry I don't know the answer. But someone here will

Awww...sad news! I could totally relate...about 2 weeks ago, and only like 5 days into ownership my neighbors dented my back right panel. I know how frustrating this is; however, the solution is simpler than you might think. I had a Dent Wizard guy who the MINI/BMW dealer uses remove it. It took him about 15 minutes and it looks absolutely perfect now, except for a very small paint chip, but seriously you can barely see it. I have trouble looking back and trying to find it now. I have a before picture but have problems with my camera and have not been able to get an after picture to post so you can see what it looked like.

Sorry can't tell you about rust, but I don't think you should worry about it on a brand new car. As far as cost, mine was $100 and the guy said that if I would've had up to 3 of the same size in the same panel, the price would've stayed the same. I was so impressed by the whole process. Seriously though, I felt like I was having the MINI go through a minor "outpatient procedure"

Anybody have any recommendations in the cleveland, ohio area? or any national chains. again, the dent is suuuper small, but since the door is so smooth it sticks out like crazy. and the scrapes are down to the bare metal. do these services repaint the area too? how do the match the paint???

I just had some horrible dents from a shopping cart taken out of the drivers door of our Mazda3 by a PDR guy. Great results. But the scratches - you may be able to find a touch-up specialist in your area, otherwise the door ends up getting painted.

I would look up Dent Wizard and take it to them. They do paintless dent removal so I'm not sure if they would repaint the area, but if I were in your shoes, I'd just have the dent removed and if it's that small, chances are it will be like 99% perfect after it's removed.

 

PDR is a good idea, but I don't think it's going to work in your case. I'm fairly certain PDR is only used when the paint has not been damaged.

You're going to have to get conventional body work done. They don't have to paint the whole door though... they'll paint the repaired area and then blend the paint in each direction about 18 inches or so. Sounds like a $175 job, or so.

If the damage went through the primer coating, it's still not likely to rust. Modern auto body technology is pretty cool. But even if it does, it would only be surface rust and the shop will remove it with no ill effects.

What's your comp deductible ?

 

i cant explain how this dent looks. it looks as if it used to be a large dent but has been repaired the best it could and now there is a slight dip in the door. i dont think there is anything more someone could do, its really that small but looks horrible. i guess the scrapes are the larger problem. again there is no way im repaint the whole door on a 4 week old car. but if this is left along does anybody know from experience how long before rust will appear on a modern car. keep in mind i am in cleveland will brutal winters and plenty of road salt.

seems to good to be true. agghhh im so mad right now about this. why do people not care about other peoples stuff. we live in a world of animals.

 

I'd suggest you also post something on the Detailing forum as they are very knowleadgeable and will probably be able to help with the paint chip part. Please, keep us updated.

BTW - I know how mad you must be right now, but the way I looked at it after it happened to me was "it's a car, anything that's done to it could be fixed." You might have to wait a bit b/c of financial reasons or what not, but don't worry it will be fixed. Good luck

 

yeah i feel ya... i haven't even MADE my first payment yet and I've already got a small chip in my paint on my bonnet close to my mini logo and somehow i have small WHITE paint specks on the BLACK roof... :-(

ur is def worse though... i say put a band aid on it... it'll give it character... lol.. or maybe even get a big vinyl magnet cut and painted to look like a band aid until u can get it fixed... can prolly get it done at any print shoppe

 

what burns me up is other peoples carless behavior. i also have another dent on my hood where a rock skipped across my hood leaving two small scratches then made a BB side dent in my chrome at the top of my bonnet. i was mad for 20 min max. but that was an accident. this was cause by a careless person, and that gets me crazy!!

i learned in life everything is relative. this is driving me crazy right now, but if i found out some very bad news, this would not be a second thought. its just so hard to put things in perspective sometimes.

 

Basically Langka is a mix of paint thinner and a semi-strong paint rubbing compound. It is a decent product but requires some practice and skill to obtain a good result in repairing paint chips. It smells aweful, so its recommended to use it in a well ventilated area. Metallic paints are very difficult to spot repair because the "flakes" on the repaired area tend to reflect light differently from the flakes in the adjacent panel area. This is one of the reasons why I stay away from metallic finishes. If you don't feel like messing up your new car's finish, I recommend looking up in Google a company called AEROCOLOURS. They do home or office mobile paint chip repairs and those guys often do a very good job in masking these annoying damage. Well worth the money IMO. Finally, if your MINI is going to be your daily driver, you can expect to receive more paint chips and blemishes as time goes by. The other only alternative is for you to garage the car and only using it in weekends, thus becoming a "garage beauty queen". A MINI should wear like your favorite pair of jeans. They feel better and better as they age. Best of luck.

i like that, very true. it actually makes me feel better. im sure there will be many more. it adds character. i guess my only concern is rust. do modern cars rust right away.

I'm sorry for you Flav. It's part of you now. Like a battle scar on your face. When the time is right you'll come across the cash and fix it with a quality job. Don't do anything half *** because you are emotional. Hang in there.
