Any way to put a radio in the 07 MINI?

Is there a way to remove the radio and replace with a after-market version in the 07 Mini?

I dont own one but from what ive seen of it I think it may be tough, JL Audio has a Clean Sweep where they basicly replace the radios guts but keep the oem look.

check out --> http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_c...php?page_id=94

Hope this helps

Might get better responses if you put it in the second gen forums

The odds are slim, and more than likely none. Radio functionality is totally built in to the huge binnical. You may be able to add external amp.In fact the factory upgrade with ten speakers has an external amp located in a small storage compartment.

if you don't mind, you can hide the aftermarket headunit inside the glove box

The radio is deeply integrated into the electronics of the car. The NAV and Bluetooth systems (if you have them) use the radio for audio output. So does the Parking Distance Control. I'm not sure how you would mate an aftermarket radio with the rest of the car.

It's easy...

Custom built dash.

Ok, well not that easy. Requires fabication.

Get the dash piece that has the radio. Make a blank copy that you modify with a standard radio opening of your choice. Paint and replace the dash piece with your radio or choice.

Otherwise leave the dash alone and add to it- amp and sub, equalizer etc or supplement with DVD player and screens- maybe another custome dash or flip down screen from the headliner area.

Basically alot of new cars come with this sort of dedicated radio built into the dash. Rats. :impatient

Hello guys,
I just posted how i removed the standard stereo and with everything out of the car we are looking at making a mould to pump out either glass or carbon panel to suit an aftermarket item. I will post as we make further progress but to ansewer the million dollar question i was able to drive the car and the speedo worked fine without the oem stereo.

As answered above,

The cleansweep from JL works and works very well. In my 07 MCS, installed that 5ch amp, Stealthbox with a 10" sub and all new component speakers. The stealth box sounds great and takes up about half of the left back seat as far as space is concerned. (not that I was doing any heavy haulin anyways)

Do you have pictures of your system? Where did you put the amp?

Bart, had a look thru your gallery, are you intending to slot an aftermarket straight into the Din slot where the currnt stereo is??

I'm told you''ll loose all the display features on the speedo!!?

I'm hoping he's able to remove the stock unit as well .. weighs heavily on my decision regarding purchasing an 07 Mini. The stock HU must be replaceable for me.

I'm actually willing to hack up the console .. but I need some assurance that after that's done, it'll look OK, everything will work, etc. I'm new to the Mini, so since no one's actually done it, it's tough to just assume it, even though it looks completely feasible.

Oned,

Looks good to me I want to do something like that .. that makes the 07 MCS a purchasable car.
