R50/53 MINI ruined my driving experience
MINI ruined my driving experience
It's not what you think.
I drove my wife's Durango last night to pick up some sandwiches, and I drove my old Jeep to work this morning, because the roads are flooding here in Charlotte, NC.
After driving the MINI this week, my other vehicles now feel like I'm driving on snow or ice. I can't feel the road. It's awful. I feel like I have no contact with the road.
Have any of you experienced the sensation of lack of control while driving other cars after you've been driving the MINI for awhile?
See ya,

Absolutely. I ran to the gas station with my mom's Corolla recently....I felt like I was all over the place. Then I had to parallel park and it took like a year. It was pretty bad.

Since I have had the MINI, I've spent time driving my father's Ford F150 and my brother's Silverado. I hated it. Practically no feedback. My brother's truck is also sporting a V6, so it's also gutless. I'm trying to figure out how I lived with my Mitsubishi Montero for 3 years.
YES!
My 1999 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 feels like a TRUCK.
Oh, it is a truck.
But, really, it feels like I am driving a friggin SEMI now! I only drive it when I need to carry something big, like a musk ox or a pallett of bowling *****.

We have a Mazda protege and I always felt it was a pretty tight car. My heart skipped a beat when I went into a corner near my house and I darn near drove off the road. It feels horrible compaired to the MINI.

It must be a Mini conspiracy to make us keep buying Mini's.
I'm currently selling a 5 speed Mustang since I have bought my MCS. I had to go the other night to meet some people and after they left I was going to move the car. I thought the clutch had gone out.
The travel on the clutch pedal on the Mini feels three times as short as the Mustang.

Yes, yes, yes!
My wife's little Saturn is a pretty good 'around town' car and, prior to the Mini, I though it handled OK, for what it was. Now I keep wondering, "Do I have a tire going flat?"
Also, nothing else I've driven stops like a Mini. I have to remember to allow a little extra space and time for stopping whenever I'm driving anything else.

Get rid of the stupid Durango. If you must have a lot of room, check out a Toyota Matrix/ Pontiac Vibe. You'll be glad you did.
I appreciate your suggestions, but you might want to re-think your choice of words. Telling someone their choice of vehicle is "stupid" doesn't do much to motivate them to look for alternatives.

Great car, Koolmini. You are indeed koool.
I had a 1954 Chevy Pickup that I sold in high school. Oh what I'd give to have that truck back, now. I sure miss it.

Maybe not all that drastic. I certainly appreciate my MINI every time I drive her but I still have the old, stinky, balky F-150 and, while it still handles like a truck, I don't feel any great wrench of disorientation when I have to drive it (a lot lately 'cuz were moving). It all pretty much levels out when you've driven a lot of different vehicles for a lot of years.

I grew up driving a '77 Rabbit and I've not been able to drive anything big since. I have a 95 Saab 900SE that feels like an SUV when I drive it. My Miata feels exactly right. When I've gone from driving the Miata to test driving the MINI, I don't notice any change and barely notice that push-pull thing at all. I used to feel so nervous and uncomfortable driving my friends big American cars with their lousy spring settings. Feel the road, know the road, own the road.

He he... Since my love slave--er, boy slave--I mean, boyfriend test drove the MCS for me (I did not yet know how to drive a stick) I volunteered to return the favor for a good friend of mine who was in the same situation and wanted a Jetta. So we told the dealer and he laughed and handed over the keys and stood there while Amy and I piled in. Couldn't move the car. Shut it down and turned it on maybe 2-3 times before I finally realized I had to let out on the clutch about a FOOT before it enganged. Whoops.
Good thing I don't have much pride
My MINI has ruined me!!!

It's kinda the opposite for me, after riding my bike it feels like my MCS is a slug. But what do you expect with 160hp and a 490 lb motorcycle. But out of the 35-40 cars I've had, the Mini is the best all-around car in the bunch.

I test drove the MINI for the first time yesterday and when I got back into my 1989 bonneville I about ran off the road trying to make U-turn. I forgot that the Bonne has a huge turning radius because I got use to driving the MINI for the past hour and a half.

>>Well parallel parking is not for chicks anyway!

I agree. Baby chickens are not equipped to drive, much less park. They can only be cute and run around and make peeping noises.
Women, on the other hand, are perfectly able to parallel park.
