6th Gear Rev Limit

Fact: the R53 JCW will bounce off the rev limiter in 6th gear.

Does the non-JCW?

Do you mean the fuel cut at about 7k?

Eh, the R53 will bounce off the rev limiter whether it's JCW or not. I think the stock rev limiter is 6850. How did you manage to get up to the stock rev limiter without hitting the speed limiter? At the 130 MPH or so that the stock cars are limited to, you can't be anywhere near the rev limit.

I topped my last car out at close to 150 in 5th before I had to slow down (The gearing was modified though, and i'm unsure what change that made from the stock cars though gearing as I never drove it with the stock 04 gearing).

I'm guessing the speed limiter is not enabled on the JCW programming, as the cutoff came at 7000 rpm as it does in all other gears. I think the rev limit is also set higher on the JCW program. Before I had the JCW tune kit installed , it would kick out around 6800 as you mention.

The speed limiter is most definitely on with the JCW software. I have the JCW software on my car now, right around 130 the car cuts out. My tach is a bit off, but I'm pretty sure the JCW software sets the rev limiter almost exactly the same as the stock software.

Hmmm! I'm wondering why mine changed during the upgrade.

I thought I read somewhere (perhaps here on NAM) that the R53 does NOT have a speed limiter but instead is limited to about 135-137 by the aerodynamics (or lack there of) of the MINI. Ask the Fireballed! Racing guys, I'm sure they know.

Uh, no... my car hit 145+ and was still pulling hard prior to the MTH software being removed. After the JCW reflash the car stops accelerating at about 130.

Please please please! Tell me these speeds were attained on a track. Interesting though, the discrepencies between the speedlimiter/no speedlimiter and the revlimiter.

I hit 140 on a back stretch at the track in my stock 06 JCW, I was only limited by track length

Gotta love the 'bahn!!!

In that the Deutsches Autobahn typically has a recommended maximum speed of 130Km/80mph, it is possible (and legal) to GREATLY exeed that speed. The Germans I know want their cars to cruise around 230-250Km/143-155mph whilst on the 'bahn.

As for Maggie (stock 06MCS) on der autobahn, she maxes out at 6k RPM in 6th gear pulling 138mph. She was able to pull to that speed pretty good but it seemed like the ECU kicked in and she stopped making power beyond 6k. No drama, pulls, luggs or anything, just no more turns beyond 6k.

As for me, I'm comfortable cruising around 4-4.5k RPM, which is about 100-115 MPH. Sure, all that speed is a rush but the gas goes just as fast!! I'll be glad to get better MPG back in the States but I'm gonna miss those runs on the Bahn!! The only thing I'll miss more are the Nederlander round-abouts!!

Cheers!

Clocked by GPS I presume? and not looking at the speedo which is most likely incorrect.

The CD make the MINI flying brick, very poor aerodynamics.

I want my speed limiter to be at 70, is there any way to have that done? (No cruise control and no, my foot is not an acurate speed limiter)

people just assume what they hear is correct, most wont try to find out if its true or not. i think the stock MCS is limited by drag but a modded one will go faster

That's my experience.

You could probably get your computer programmed somewhere to do that (I'm not one to know where) but I'd presume that it is technically possible to do. Ask at your dealer.

I know what you mean though, with the whole "My foot doesn't stop there" thing...mine too increases in mass as it rests on the accelerator. Just one of those things.....we may never know why....
