am I being ridiculous?

Ok so I specifically asked the dealer not to drill the front bumper for the plate, and i have an email saying they wont. I may be looking into getting the JCW aero kit would it be ridiculous of me to make them drop the price or even give it to me? this dealer has been a royal pain. discuss amongst yourselves

You mean they drilled the holes after you specified not to?

Not sure what you're asking. Drop the price of what? And why? And how does that relate to not drilling the front bumper?

Are you saying they did drill the bumper? Reject the car and reorder from a better dealer.

errr thanks. I am sick with a head cold and yet still at work so my logos may not be at its best. they did in fact drill the bumper after i specified not to. As much as i know the ultimate step would be to reject and reorder I cant play the waiting game again so I will be keeping the car. Chows are you saying that they wont discount it just because they have to install it? you dont have to tell me if you dont want

Well they don't know you don't want to reject it.

Make sure to let them know that you're thinking about it and ask them what they can do for you to change your mind. If they say nothing then you didn't really lose anything or win anything and you can still keep it.

I would not expect a discount on an aero kit...or even that they exchange it for your original bumper. It's an option with a listed price...exchange is never part of the deal.

But that's just me...I also have asked them to drill my bumper and install a front plate (which imo looks perfectly at home on...if not an improvement of...an R56 bumper). R56s bumper is kinda bland...begging for a plate. This is a good thing, imo. We've gotten into drill-phobia around here...it's no longer necessary.

I thought there was a law in CA which required dealers to mount a front plate holder unless the owner signed a waiver.

Threatening to reject the car is being ridiculous.

You can express your displeasure and see if they offer some sort of compensation.

Don't know about you but I couldn't reject a car I'd been waiting for just because of 2 measly holes in the bumper. How you gonna deal with the withdrawal symptoms.

Like others have said, and since you've already accepted the car, go back to the dealer, wring your hands and put on a good act about how badly you've been mistreated etc etc. They should offer some kind of compensation. I got $500.00 bucks knocked off mine simply because the dealer failed to tell me when the order went in, as he promised to do. I called to make some changes and found out my MINI was just about to get unloaded from the boat. They voluntarily offered the $500.00 just to keep me happy. Mighty big of them, I must say. Good luck.

You still took delivery.

Demanding an aero kit when the dealer was doing the reasonable thing to mount the plates is unethical to me.

So my vote is yes, you're being ridiculous (where's that spanking smiley???)

I am just looking for some form of compensation. to be perfectly honest I wouldnt care if they gave me some valve stem caps or a key chain, I would just like them to say we are sorry we didnt do what you asked.

Did you get the car from Crevier MINI??

Generally they don't even ask on an "S" they just leave it off.

You have to even ask them to mount it if you want the plate on.

Am I reading this right? You're pissed and threatening to reject a car you've previously accepted because the dealer drilled holes for the required license plate???

Yeah, you're being ridiculous. I was happy my dealer took care of it for me.

I'm saying that I believe most MINI dealers will charge you full list price for any part (not just the aero kit).

If you want a discount, join a MINI club that has arranged like a 10% discount

NAM sponsor Classic can probably get you discount,

But I do not believe you will get any discount just coming off the street on parts.

As to the two holes ... as they say... "s....t happens". Mark them down on the survey when they ask how good they did. If your state REQUIRES a front plate, you aint got much of a case against them (and CA does so I'm guessing your SOL)

Best of luck

Sounds like the person you talked to was not the same one who did the drilling.I agree with some of the comments above relating to what the law is in Ca.I live near Sacramento and when the car was purchased from Long Island,I instructed them to drill for the front plates.Q

I think this makes an excellent case.

California does not require that you drill the bumper. It requires that you display the plate.

Oh sure, they got the tow hook thingie out for a few years.

I still think the OP hasn't got a prayer. Probably standard procedure on all cars.

It seems the OP wanted an undrilled bumper in hopes of trading it out (in virgin condition) for a new Aero front end. Am I right on this? If I am than it likely would not have mattered either way, one would have to pay full price for the new accessory (unless going through a NAM vendor as mentioned).

If somebody orders a car without holes , they should get a car without holes. The law (in some states) says you gotta have a front plate. Doesn't say it's gotta be mounted with holes or by the dealer. BTW, most states don't enforce the front plate law unless the local gendarme walks around the car while writing up a traffic citation. They're always focused on the rear tags and stickers.

As for the discount, join your local MINI club and take the usual 10-15% discount from the dealer.
