D70s ?

I bought my D70s last Nov. and love it. Does everything I want and then some. But I've had a message pop up in the control panel that Nikon couldn't answer??? They want me to send it back.
The message says, 'off'.
I tried to reformat the card and that worked once (a month or so ago). I was using the camera today at a place like, Make A Wish. Taking pictures of families that are enjoying all the activities in the Orlando area. Anyway, I take about 8 pictures, then get the 'off' message again. I inserted a different card and got the same message, but then it worked and I was able to finish my pictures.
I called Nikon and their tech person I spoke too, didn't know what it was and said I should send it back. He had no reference to an 'off' message in his data base of info.
Have any of you 70s people heard about or seen this message? And if so, how can I fix it or do I send it back since it's still under warranty?

Thanks ahead of time.

Unfortunately, I'd say send it in under warranty.

I was afraid of that. They have DSLR Canon's for me to use where I take pictures, but I like using mine so I can better aquainted with it.

Thanks for the reply.

Another question for D70/D70S owners.

After 3 years of no trouble my camera batteries will not hold a charge. Does any one here know how the batteries behave when they are past their useful life?

I purchased the camera in Apr 03 (just before the second Dragon trip). I picked up one extra battery with the camera and swap them when one is tired so they have been used about the same amount. I tend to let them ware down before recharging unless I know I am going for a trip. Niether battery were on the NIKON recall list.

Basicly the camera will not come on when I move the switch to the ON position. If I charge the battery the camera will work for a short time. Two days later the camera is not working again. If I hold down the MENU button the camera will flash the MENU screen last used but I can make no changes or navigate in that screen. It does this with both batteries and any memory card I put in. I am at work now (until 6am tomorrow) and can not take the camera to a store. I want to believe my power problem is the batteries have finally worn out. I worry that it is something else.
Thanks in Advance.

I recently discovered that Lithium Ion batteries only last 3 years. This was the battery for my Sony laptop. I used a company called Batteryrefill.com that replaces the old cells with new ones. Not sure if they do batteries other than laptops but I was satisfied. I paid $65 instead of $180 for a new one and the cells offer 20% to 30% more capacity than OEM.

FWIW, sounds like dead batteries to me. Li-Ion batteries are typically only rated for 500 recharges. I'd replace the battery before worrying about something worse...
