Nikon CoolPix S1
Hi everyone,
What are your feelings on the Nikon Coolpix cameras? I know very basic stuff about cameras and specs and whatnot, but I found a few good deals on ebay and want to clear it with the gurus over here first.
I will primarily use it for pics of the Mini. Close up pics of the paint finish (before and after shots). And some glamor shots as well.
Your thoughts?

5 MP with a 3x optical zoom for $220.
Wow. Times change. I remember paying $400 or so for my first Nikon Coolpix and that was only 2 MP.

Be careful with that Coolpix...
Some years ago I got my wife a Coolpix 777 (I think that was the name). My Nikon 6006 got put away and almost never came out again. Then the D70 came along....
Now the wife will not let me in or near a camera store because the D200 is out

Just bought a Coolpix P1 for my teenage daughter's upcoming 17th birthday. It's an 8mp critter with WiFi (for downloading files onto your computer).
I'm even tempted to get one for myself ($299 at Costco) just for fun snapshots around friends.
I have an "old" Coolpix 5400.
Can't go wrong with Nikon!

I’m not qualified to make comparisons about picture quality but my Coolpix S4 is really neat to use. As an old guy with readers the swivel lens helps get the subject in the frame without having to wrench my neck just to see the display. The ability to turn the lens backward got me some interesting between the car body panel shots.
I think the S1 is a decent camera, but I'd suggest the S3 before the S1. either that or the S2 is almost the same camera but it is water/splash "resistant" which could come in handy. I think they can all be picked up for around the same price. may as well take a look at the pentax optio S6 while you are at it. the screen on that little guy is fantastic!
