Camtech Photo Services of Huntington, Long Island

So this is probably a direly specific question, but I'm going to ask it here anyway because I trust the opinions of NAMmers.

I have an Olympus OM-1n SLR which was given to me by my father and, in addition to being the World's Greatest Camera ( ), holds tremendous sentimental value. It is in need of an overhaul. It performs fabulously, but it's never been cleaned - ever - and the meter needs recalibrated to function with a silver battery since they don't sell Mercury buttons anymore.

To that end, I've been nebbing about the web, looking for suggestions, etc. and one repair place -- Camtech -- keeps coming up as THE place to send any OM system camera (factory trained, uses OM parts from cannibalized cameras, etc.).

Problem is: I don't know these people on the other boards/sites and I'm leery about shipping my camera off. So... has anyone (come on, Long Eyelanders!) heard of or dealt with them and willing to attest to their reputation???

Conversely, if you're NOT willing to attest to their reputation, please to let me know that, as well.

Toasty, go talk to a local store about the camera and see if they have any recommendations, or a local photo club. Surely someone has been through this process in your parts before!

Fine Camera

I'm not familiar with that shop, but I'd check the forums at photo.net

Dave.

Thanks guys!

I talked to a few people in the photo industry (locally) and they haven't heard of Camtech/John

BUT

He has variously been described as "hero" and "god" on the photo.net forum

There is apparently a very good camera store in Mass, down the road from a friend. She's going to check it out for me and ask around amongst her photographer friends.
