Obscuring License Plate Numbers
"but heck I see no reason to obscure the tags in a picture on the Internet."
Keep thinking, that it only happens to others. It's a very precious feeling I truely hope you can hold onto, and I really miss, in todays, mega-doses of data collection processes. The very same official liceness bureau I pay my fees to, sells my very same data. That is a fact. How many sites do you know that won't let you on until you accept a "tracking" cookie? Actually read the EULA sometime.
Privacy in this country has become a dinosaur, that is abused to the max, always costing the victim, his hard earned money. Read their EULA's and legal warning labels. They are NOT resposible for ANYTHING anymore, after demanding all your info, ...or else, you can just forget about doing any business with them. Their legally protected from "us". Who protects you or me, and our data?
Brag about your driving "at the edge", or racing against some other street hot shoe, running illegal radar jammers, etc., etc., then post a picture of your car, with liceness plates. Who cares? "Someone" may, I would think.
Besides, plates are just plain ugly. How many do you see on, at an autoshow?
If it bothers some, sorry. I got better things I'd rather be doing than blocking out my plates. But take my word for it. If it just does happen to you someday, good luck trying to recoup your losses, the headaches and all the time involved with it. Hope it don't make you into a wacko paranoid (with less money in your pocket).
