Nikon D300 / D3
As some on this board know I am the sports photographer for the Baltimore Sun. I received my D3 Friday and used it at a high school football game Fri and the Army/Navy game yesterday. I will also use it at the night Ravens game Monday. All I can say is WOW! Nikon has finally delieverd the real deal. The results are just incredible and, well, I"m glad I didn't have to shell out the 5 grand for it.
If you have that cash laying around and are serious about photography, go for it, you won't be disappointed.

your living a lot of people's dream .... congrats
Oh man, how could your papers get it before me.
I'm sure it's a great camera, can't wait....can't wait.
BTW, are you going to the MD 3A and 4A state championship @ Ravens' this week?
If you go, may I have a chance to see your baby.

That's pretty amazing Chuck. The D200 seems to be better than my older D70 for dirt but I still get a good bit of "schmutz". Did I read that the D300 has some sort of electronic charge on the sensor that will help to keep dust off of it? Or was that just the D3X?
No your read it right. The D300 & D3 have a electronic voodoo dust chaser.
Be careful my friend, you just may end up having to buy one of those D300's. I was going to wait another year or so, but I feel myself weakening.
I wonder how my wife will react to yet another new camera.
I'm very careful when I change lenses & yes I haven't had to clean the D200's sensor yet. I attribute that to the sealing of the body & me being careful when changing lenses.
My D70 wasn't too bad about getting grunge on the sensor, but my frankencamera Fuji S1 was a dirt farm. I could have grown potato's in there.

I try to be careful when changing lenses too, but sometimes "schmutz happens". I'll be thinking all is OK then shoot something with a lot of sky at f11 (or smaller) and think hmm is that a bird in the shot?
Not a bird, but a UFO. If it's a bird be careful, it could schmutz on ya.
You could if I would be there..
Sorry, MaxCooper, after Monday night's Ravens game I am off skiing to CO for two weeks and it looks like they are getting snow just in time!!
If you are so inclined go to http://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/highschool/. On the top right of the page you will see a kid by a lion, click where it says 2007 photos. That opens a photo gallery. Photos 2-6 are from the Hereford football game I shot Friday night. The photos are at 6400 ISO!!! and some are cropped to 1/3 of the frame. The quality is unbelievable. To those that have ever shot at a high school night football game, to shoot at 500th of a second @f3.5 and get this quality, you'll know why I am excited!

To be able to shoot anything above 1600 without using any noise reduction software is a bless.
Speaking of lighting at high school football game, even at iso 1600, f/2.8 lenses won't cut it.

To have usable shots @ iso 6400, is the dream come true.
