April 28th Griots Garage Detail Clinic

Just like the titel says, Griots is holding their detail clinic over in Indy again this year. Chuck and I went last year and I was able to get him to spend lots of money.

This year I am going over with some people again and was hoping to make a bigger turnout for the MINI group. I will have more details after the weekend, but I *think* it starts at 9 like it did last year.

Got it. Looks like fun and besides, my poor car needs it. Do we just meet there or are we gonna meet along the way or what?

I'm up for it.

As a way of making it up to me for causing me to spend my sons inheritance on detail supplies Sean has agreed to detail all MINI's that show up at Griots. What a guy!!!

Jeff we go right by Urbanana on 70. We could all convoy over. Do you think Paul or vdubdoug would want to go too? That's only 4 MINI's for Sean to do. Should only take him a couple of hours.

Its a good think I got you to buy stuff, because I am going to need a lovely assitant to get all the cars done with the packing and other things that have to get done. As for your son, let me teach him to detail cars, hopefully he can make a better profit than I. It appears I have to work hard to keep my friends.

I asked Paul last weekend and he didn't seem interested in going at all. I haven't seen Doug in months, so I cannot speak for him, either.

I'm in Piqua [north of 70, about 25 miles, on 75]. It's easier for me to just head over on US 36...longer, slower, but a lot easier, since I am so far out of the way.

Going thru Indy to Plainsfield will be tricky for you, as 70 is all torn up with new construction and has been re-routed...with long lines of backed-up traffic on 65 and 465, so give yourselves lots of time to get there.

Great to see some OH folks coming out for the event. Currently I think there are be a lot of the Indy also planning to attend. If you guys have time, we should grab some food before you head east.

Jeff, is 70 that bad? Maybe we should all caravan over on 36. What time would we need to leave Piqua to get to the west side of Indy by 9:00?

Actually, US 36 is having some reconstruction, too...starting tomorrow and going thru mid July. When coming home from Putnam Park, I ran into the I-465 and I-65 mess. Paul and Sue had told me what a boondoggle it was as they came TO Putnam from Dayton, and it scared me to have to put up with all that snarled and unhappy traffic. So, what I did was to get on I-74 East, as if I was going to Cincinnati. I was only on I-74 for a few miles when I ran into Post Road [which goes near Waylen's]. I got off I-74 at Post Rd., and turned LEFT...following Post Rd. back to I-70 and eliminating all that traffic mess. The ONLY problem with Post Rd. is that it's 40 mph [policed] and is a 2-laner and has lots of potholes, but if ya drive sanely, you can save a lot of time.

I drive US 36 West from Piqua and into IN. I turn south off US 36 at the New Castle exit and follow that road to I-70, where I get off at Post Rd. to go to Waylen's. That's why I knew about I-74 in the first place.

I imagine that getting to Plainsfield will take almost 3 hrs. for me from Piqua...possibly less, but I'd rather estimate high than low. You CAN just come over on I-70 and get off onto Post Rd; in fact, from where you are coming, that's probably the best route...if you plan to use I-74 at all.

2.5 to 3.0 hrs from Piqua. Remember, US 36 is a 2-laner, so cops WILL be about, even though it's a pretty straight road to the New Castle exit.

Where does the construction start on 70? I drove out past dayton last week and didnt have any issues on the way out. The way back however was in traffic and construction...

I hardly ever drive west on 70, from Piqua. As I stated last night, I don't even hit 70 til I get to New Castle. From New Castle to 465 is OK, but at 465 and 65 is where the "fun" begins. Again, I weenied out at Post Rd., turned left and followed it to I-74 west, and it eventually got me back onto 70 with NO hangups.

LOL...sorry! If you travel on 70, you will hit Post Rd. exit before the 465/65 one. Either one will get you there, but the 465-65 route may take awhile longer...or not...depends when you hit it, I guess. The Striebys hit it around afternoon rush hour and it made their lives a veritable Hell. You will hit it early Saturday morning, so it very well may be painless. I'll stick with what I know and will get to Plainfield...ummm...sometime Saturday morning. LOL

Jeff, last year I believe we left about 12:30-1:00. We were some of the last to leave. You shouldn't have a problem getting to Way's place in time. In fact last year he was over at Griots.

Are you having him make your car faster? Remember seat time is the best mod.

He only had camber plates the last time I was there, but put them on for my runs at Putnam Park. He's supposed to be getting rear control arms this week, and if he does, I'll be stopping there on the way home.

Yep...seat time IS the best time...hopefully, I'll be seeing a lot of it this Summer and Fall!

Very interesting.....what camber plates are you running? How much camber in the front? How do you like them? Inquiring minds want to know.

Fixed IE plates. I like them...car was real stable on the track and doesn't feel bad for everyday driving, either. I don't know the camber, as I am waiting to get the rear control arms on and then have the car aligned. Way just told me that my tires would be ok for awhile and at the track, so I'm not real worried...yet. Helluva way to wear out the runflats, though. At least the car won't be this way for long.

Thanks for the info. We can talk more about cambers & toe ins & outs at Griots. Looking forward to Sean waxing all of our cars again. Heck it's been a week since the last waxing party.
