Vette Tale
Vette Tale
OK, my fingers are still shaking a little bit because I just saw me some crazzzzy ship. Driving home from the grocery and I get off on the Main Street exit off 70 Eastbound, nice slightly decreasing radius off ramp I have snow tires on and the rear loaded with groceries so not driving fast at all. Dude in front of me in a new vette (black very clean probably brand spank him new) we merge and I hear him rev the hell out of it and I think this is going to be fun to watch him scoot away. Well instead of him flashing to the horizon he fish tails goes off the road misses a street sign by inches at one point he is on 2 wheels in the grass spins around and stops in the grass. I stop in the road and allow him to come back onto the pavement. He goes really really slow and I pull up beside him and shoot him an OK with a concerned look on my face I can see that dude is white as a ghost. He turns off and I see him stop on a side street, no doubt to catch his breath and notice the smell from the poo in his pants. That is as scared as I have ever been for another person in my life.
Great Story .... The other day on my way into work in the craptastic Kia Spectra Rental (Mini was in the body shop) Roads were clear 5AM I'm doing 70+ in the slow lane following a trailblazer , out of nowhere at a guesstamated speed of 85+ comes a Dodge Durango we hit a bridge at about the same time , unfortunately there was a nice layer of black ice ...Durango does a beautiful 180 sliding backward at 70 or so then sliding into the trailblazer in front of me pushing him into the cement barrier on the bridge , body parts mirrors glass ect were flying everywhere , At that point I realize like 90% of the bridge is blocked... Of course I go for the brakes , solid ice no way ,(now thinking oh crap I should have bought the damage waiver) I somehow managed to slide into the fast lane and squeak by , unfortunately headed for the median , hitting the throttle and turning the wheel I manage to start heading towards the other side , cranking the wheels the other way after 5/6 excursions between the lines I regained control... I was getting off the next exit , a car pulls up beside me and honks , I roll down the window he says "wow man that was a nice piece of driving you headed back to the accident scene"
"I said no , I already called it in and gave them my address if they need to talk to me " .... bottom line I think the Mid ohio driving course/skid car really prepped me for what happened
Last night I took the same exit and after looking he went between a sign and a pole then inbetween two trees (very small trees that were planted less than a year ago).
Chuck you could not be more correect, makes you glad they are giving ZR1 buyers a day of instruction with their purchase. I always thought that above a level of horse power people should be mandated to take high performance driver training. I have always wanted to go through that type of training, but want to wait untill I have a car with some serious horse power.

Man Allen that was one lucky Vette pilot. YIKES!!!
I'm all for advanced driver training. It can save ones life. Even if one never plans to go on track or buy a super high performance car it is very valuable training. It is money well spent.
From what I've heard the Mid-Ohio school is one of the best.
