Virginia Fall Foliage Drive - October 16th
I'm sure some of you remember the Fall Foliage drives from 2002, 2003 and 2004 which left from Crown MINI in Richmond and met up with others on the UVA campus in Charlottesville. For those of you who have motored with us in the past, please join in the fun again this year. For those of you who may have not made it in the past, please come on out and join the fun!

Here are the latest details as of 10/14 at 9:30pm................

This drive will feature a variety of roads including sections of

Interstate 64
Route 151
Route 56
Route 252
Route 39
Route 28
Route 250
Interstate 64

We'll be dining for lunch around 1pm at the Mill Creek Cafe
Corner of Rts. 39 & 42
Goshen, VA 24439
Family restaurant, reasonable prices. Home cooking, homemade pies & pizzas, fresh seafood, deli sandwiches, fresh-cut charbroiled steaks.

Weather for the day should be perfect (but a little too cool for an outdoor picnic lunch). Sunny and breezy in the mountains with a morning low in the high 30's and afternoon highs in the mid 60's. It will be cool in Charlottesville in the morning with predicted temp of 58 and sunny for 10am.

Things to bring:

Sweatshirt or light jacket for walking around
Lunch money
Full tank of gas
2 way radios (charged up overnight) set to channel 7 - subchannel 21
Camera
Road map of west central VA
Cell phone (although service will be pretty spotty)



Directions to meeting place in Richmond (meeting at 8:30am)............

Interstate 64 to Parham Road North Exit (this exit is about 6 or 7 miles West of downtown Richmond)
Parham Road North to Broad Street
Left onto Broad Street
Crown MINI/BMW is on your right after about 1/2 - 1 mile



Directions to Meeting place in Charlottesville (meeting at 10am)..........

US 29 South towards Charlottesville
Exit at Barracks Road Headed South toward campus and Emmet Street
Right turn onto Emmet Street
Follow Emmet for a ways through campus
Turn left onto Jefferson Park Ave.
Park at first parking lot on right just behind the Cabell Hall building
We'll meet on "The Lawn" between the Cabell Building and the Rotunda

We will roll out of UVA campus at 10:30 sharp. If you're meeting us in Charlottesville, please be there in time to leave with the group. If you miss us there, meet in Goshen at the restaurant above for lunch.

Plan on being back to Richmond around 7pm.

Mark your calendars now for the Virginia Fall Foliage drive on Sunday, October 16th. This will pretty much be an all day event. The destination is the Blue Ridge Mountains just West of Charlottesville.

There will be a group leaving from Richmond to meet other groups in Charlottesville during mid morning. From there, we will motor as a group through some twisty hilly countryside with a lunch stop on the way.

Cameras are an absolute must as the area should be pretty close to peak color at that time (at least at some of the elevations that we'll visit) The drive is being coordinated by me, (I'm active in River City MINI's and am known as tandemnut on that board).

I'll post more details as they are nailed down. If you'd like to coordinate a group of MINIs from your area to meet in Charlottesville, go for it! It should be a blast.

I think I'm interested I live in Culpeper area, and besides my father and I there are not really any mini enthus. that live in my area. We feel left out hahah.

Alternatively, you could meet us in Richmond but you'd probably need to start out pretty early to meet us by 8:30 - 8:45.

Can you give me a little more detail on the route? I'd like to be able to tag along somewhere -- my son DDRAIG and I would be able to join you. However I have a commitment at Blue Ridge School - which is just off of Route 33 west of Stanardsville -- until about noon. Do you intend to go north on Skyline drive? and come back down through Sperryville to Route 522 to Richmond or 29 south to Charlottesville. If you don't want to reveal the route yet perhaps you could email me privately at padre4u@hotmail.com
