O.K. folks, time to get registered for this event, Friday, July 16, Pocono South with NASA-NE.

According to dandp, he will still be attending with his new ride, a BMW Z3 3.0i Coupe! I will be there, Eric from Helix will be there, also, according to Eric, there will be a good showing of MINI's!

Bonus....it's only $130!!

There had been a question about joining NASA. When I
signed up for one of their events I had to become a member. But,
you get a year's subscribtion to Grassroots Motorsports and access
to well run and well priced events!

See ya out there!!

Recap of Day's Events

For the most part we had great weather, not too hot. Though I did do one session in the rain.

I had discovered a few weeks prior that my instructor, John, from the SCDA Lime Rock event in April was with NASA. You may remember that I was really pleased with him. So, I requested him for the 16th. Well, it just didn't click in the first session, it may have been because he wasn't feeling well, though I was unaware of it. I didn't think much of it, figured we had 3 more sessions to work together. Anyway, I found the South Course to be quite awkward, the steep banking in the turn was really weird!! Track map:

For my second session, Eric Savage of Helix hops in my car. It was his first event instructing. He told me that John wasn't feeling well. Well, Eric was an excellent instructor!! I had a much better session with him. Though I did put 2 wheels off coming out of turn two. In general, I'd been handling that turn pretty well. Don't know what happened really, I think that I just got distracted and there I was, wide and off of the track. I didn't panic and got back on and continued just fine.

Before session 3, as usual, I looked over my car, rotors, tires, etc. Adjusted pressures, added in the front (wasn't raining when I did this), reduced in the back. Took the car out in the rain on my own, among very few others. Steady rain, not pouring, the rain stopped halfway through my session, but the track stayed wet. Of course I wasn't going as fast, but I focused on the line and forced myself to keep looking ahead. A good consolidation session. I did notice that things seemed bumpier than usual. Didn't make the connection.

Prior to my 4th session, I did my inspection, and my front right tire looked flat!! This is a run-flat looking flat! Checked the pressure, 10 pounds!! Well, I'm getting wise to these track days, and had an extra wheel and tire with me. So we moved the right rear to the front and put the extra on the rear. Don't you know the rim was bent!! My first track day trauma. I do think that if the tire hadn't been a run-flat and the sidewall was more flexible, I wouldn't have ended up with a bent rim. Oh well, I do have 12 S-lites, and I hate everyone of them! Tire is O.K., though it only has 3/32 of tread left on it anyway. Time for those Yokos!

One thing I realized, was that I hadn't yet rode with an intructor! Big mistake, should have done it earlier in the day. I won't make that mistake again. So, when Eric got off of the track, I handed him my keys and had him drive for 5 minutes of my last session. Eric was also an excellent driver and I did MUCH better after that!!

NASA ran a well organized event. The "classroom" session wasn't educational in the way that it is with SCDA, more a question and answer about the things that individual drivers were dealing with driving the track.

It was great to see so many familiar faces there. We had at least 11 MINIs!! Dminiero was there with his M Coupe, and dandp with his Z3. I've already forgotten the names of a couple of people that I met. Many thanks to Boris, Trevor, Dennis and I think Sy, if that's even his correct name I'm sure I spelled it wrong. They moved quickly to get me on the track for my 4th session.

Boris and Andy, it was a pleasure to meet you, there are a couple of others that I met and I'm so sorry that I don't remember your names! Hope to see you at another event soon! Alan, great to see you again!
