I love the new mini cooper S. I've been an auto-xer for awhile and run a prepped integra in STS with the SCCA. I think the cooper would be a hoot for auto-x, (anyone agree). I have a couple questions about the cooper such as wheel size, and generally what the market is for them.

How much are you guys paying for these cars? MSRP, more, or less?

What is the stock wheel bolt pattern, size/offset, (both 16 and 17 variations) What tire sizes fit? (i've got my volk te37 16x7 with azenis from my integra and thinking these will slap right on...wholla, auto-x rims)

Thanks in advance and I like this forum.

not ignoring you, Patrick, just hard to know where to begin ...
... there are answers in recent threads on Performance and Competition forums, Dan has good tyre info on Tyre&Wheel forum (100x4 bolt patern BTW), Mini Talk has lots of info on pricing - MSRP and above only ...
Check out a couple of those and we'll try to help you with specifics ... 2minis is right BTW - MINIs can't be beat 'round the cones !

Hey Pat, the dealers I've been too are saying 4-6 months wait to "order" one but they do have some on the lot. I'm planning to find one on a lot somewhere and travel to get it. I'm waiting on a job offer to come through and then its full steam ahead with calling all dealers... It also seems to be a common occurance for pre-ordered vehicle customers backing out which leaves their ordered car available.

MSRP seems to be the norm but I have also found that some on the dealers lots have added items that are way over priced. For instance, one car had lots of extras and the driving lites were listed as $650 instead of the $400 quoted from the factory. If looking for an available one, be prepared to buy some extras.

4x100 with a 48mm offset I do believe however if you want to run GS, the 16" are only legal at 6.5" width so the volks would be out but could certainly work for daily use, STX or other class. 17x7 is also a legal wheel but R-tire choice is nill in that size. The options seem to be 215/40-16 which is only avail in Hoosier or 205/45-16 in the new Kuhmo Ecstav700. I think I'm going to go with the Kumho for the price and longevity...at least to start with. Of course, having sold the ITR due to extended unemployment (13 months and counting), the new MCS idea is all contingent on this promising prospect.

Have you thought about the Cooper (non-S) in H Stock. WIth little more than 6 months development, the Coopers took 8 of 10 trophies in HS and the top two spots in HSL at Nationals.
The Volks are half an inch too wide which is already mentioned here, but will be great street rims. TireRack and SSR are coming out with a 16x6.5 wheel that will be perfect for both the Cooper and S.
Pricing is MSRP, but with the ala carte options, you could buy a base car $16,750, and upgrade it with the go fast goodies or order a true H Stock class killer, with the 6 month wait.
Azenis are grippy, but still not as grippy as a true R compound tire, and for stock class to be competitive, you'd want Rs.
IMHO, best thing would buy a Cooper or S, put your Volks on for street and mount some Kuhmos or Hoosiers on the stock wheels for Solo II.
Hope this answers your questions.

Patrick, as luck would have it, I will have a 2002 MINI S available sometime this spring. I found availability of a 2003 tricked out just like I want, so am willing to sell my current toy car. It's EB/W, sports package (no bonnet stripes), new front performance tires (wore the old ones out playing!), leatherette seats, rally lights, under 9000 miles currently. Price negotiable, but probably in the high teens. Send a private message on this forum, or e-mail directly to lillidawg@aol.com.
