Price Advice....Modded '04 MCS
Price Advice....Modded '04 MCS
I'm curious as to what my '04 MCS would bring in it's current state.
I took delivery of this Black MINI in November of 2004. The car has 12,000 mis, all three packages, rain, HK, sunroof, Patina Dash. Mods are custom leather (red and grey), H Sport springs (powdercoated), Madness sway (pc'd also), Powerchip/Webb ECU, Alta 15% Pulley, Madness 63mm TB, Madness intake, Alta Sportone Exhaust, Rogue Short Shift, Clear Bra, 17" Centerline Excel's w/ 215/45 Yokohama's (10Kmi), Custom bonnet/boot stripes, Blinder Laser Jammer, Aero Grille, Madness skid plate, Laminex Smoke on Taillights and reflectors, Smoke side repeaters, Red/Clear Taillights, Body color painted wheel arches, sills and skirts, Zimmerman cross drilled rotors, EBC Green pads, painted calipers, stainless brake hoses, Aux audio kit.
I'm sure I've forgotten something. The car has been tracked once at a school type event, total time on track was about 1 hour. I've taken great care of this vehicle although I have one embarassment. I backed into a Suburban last summer and dented the housing around my right taillight, but had this repaired, the cracked taillight was replaced.
All who have seen this car appreciate it for it's beauty, and many have claimed it to be one of the best looking MINI's on the road.
Photos can be see at my Fotki album. (iPod and cradle not included in sale)
So what kind of price should I hope for?

It's a beautiful car but.... your best bet is going to be to return your car to as close to stock as possible and sell it for market price. Then keep the parts you want for the next MINI and sell the rest. You just are not going to get your investment back on a modded MINI unless you find the rare enthusiast who wants one ready to go.
I would agree. You MIGHT be able to get the car's original list price from a real MINI enthusiast.
Many buyers are afraid of a modified car, not knowing (1) if the person who did the mods was competent, (2) if all the mods are compatible with one another, (3) if the car was driven extremely hard as a result, and (4) warranty issues. The prevailing question is, if you're selling it after all this work and money, what's wrong with it?
Most dealers won't touch a modded car, and those that would buy it place no valkue on your "upgrades".
If you can find a buyer who appreciates the work done, figure the cost of your mods should = cost of depreciation and uncertainty.
Best of luck... I agree with the post above that by returning your MINI as close to stock as is reasonably possible will get you the quickest sale. You can always offer the mod parts to the new buyer (for a price), or post them here or on ebay. They should go pretty fast if reasonably priced.
