Description:
THIS IS IT. Marina Martin's famous "GyPsy," which did the Tail of the Dragon a few times many moons ago, did some track work at VIR, Summit Point, and Carolina Motorsports. Presented at the legendary gala purchase event and drunken night at the hotel bar in New Jersey when the first American GPs were personally handed off to the new buyers by the President of MINI USA. The leadership of MINI USA had taken the new owners into Manhattan for dinner, then afterwards, at the Hyatt Regency in Jersey City, the head of sales for MINI USA and his wife invited Marina and me for drinks at the hotel bar. Slowly other MINI owners drifted over and couldn't very well be turned away. MINI USA had a $15,000 bar tab that night. The formal handing-over of the keys ceremony the next morning had to be delayed a hour because everyone was so hung over. Some memorabilia of that event is also available. (MINI USA learned their lesson, and the next year at Zandvoort they sensibly limited the open bar to bottom-shelf drinks). Then everyone motored off to Lime Rock Park for a parade lap. Good times.
In completely drivable condition. Drove her last week actually. All original equipment except an aftermarket radio.
Original window sticker.
Custom pedal faces.
Windscreen sticker "GP0142".
JCW strut brace.
FOUR EXTRA GENUINE GP RIMS.
4-point harness.
Fully original Interior. Headliner drooping a bit. Driver side hatchback trim cracked.
One minor windscreen chip. The invisible bra is cracked and hazed but the paint underneath is fine. The installed rims wear Yokohama HP summer tires; all four show minor rash. The additional set of rims has slightly perished Sumitomo rubber on one with some minor scuffing; the other three (two in the original packaging) are pristine.
NOW IS YOUR CHANCE.
Thunder Blue · 27,782 miles · 6-speed manual · Supercharged 1.6L · One of 415 U.S. examples · Documented provenance
What distinguishes #142 from virtually every other GP1 on the market is the coherence and depth of its documentation and its bone-stock configuration. No modding or tuning has been done to this car. Every identifier — build number, pedal engraving, JCW kit number — points to the same vehicle and can be independently verified. The seller retains the original 2006 window sticker and memorabilia from the New Jersey gala handover event. Inside, the pedal faces carry the GP logo engraved with the build number 0142. Under the hood, JCW Tuning Kit No. S13771 is installed and documented. Window sticker, gala provenance, numbered pedals, numbered kit: the chain of identity is unbroken from the factory floor to the present day.
A JCW strut brace — a period-correct dealer-installed accessory — is fitted. The sole departure from factory specification is an aftermarket head unit with integrated navigation; the original unit is no longer with the car. All other mechanical and cosmetic elements are as delivered. An additional set of factory stock wheels accompanies the sale.
Seller's note: All documentation — window sticker, gala event materials, JCW kit records, engraved pedal close-ups, and any available service records — will be photographed in the listing gallery. The aftermarket head unit with integrated navigation is the only departure from factory specification. The JCW strut brace is original and carries the JCW logo, though it shows oxidation consistent with age; the brace is functional and correct to the car, and the logo remains clearly legible. Questions about the car's full history and the New Jersey handover event are welcome in the comments.
