Is the alcantara or leather covering missing on the grip area? Looks like bare plastic.

I guess it is? I've had this for many years, and the plastic is perfectly smooth and blemish free. I didn't even realize there was supposed to be Alcantara there. Just did some further research and it seems like they look the same in many photos, but I'm also seeing others with the Alcantara.
