Description:
I'm looking to buy a long block for an R53 with average mileage. One of the pistons in my engine blew up due to a spun bearing and my car sits still now. I'm desperate to get her back on the road. I'm tight on cash so cheaper would be better as long as rod bearings and main bearings are intact, compression is good, and there is no other form of internal damage
Unf, from my experience - this is a "mission impossible". I mean, to buy an engine with guaranteed good internals. In most cases you buy a cat in the bag, sellers usually don't want to mess with the motor to check everything is ok with it. Moreover, to check the bearings you, pretty much, need to fully disassemble the bottom of the engine (remove the lower part of it to see the main bearings, for example). You also would need to disassemble the head (remove the camshaft at least) to check on camshaft beds conditions, as well as will need to remove the head from the engine to check on valves.
Thus, buying such used engine is a lottery....
