It keeps your car on the road while waiting for a power steering pump, lol! Besides that the de-powered steering system has MUCH more road feel than the powered system, so you do feel the road more. The steering effort is VERY high though, but not as high as it is with a dead PS pump. An R50/53 with a higher ratio steering rack would actually be really great, but Mini never produced such a part, so it is not an option.
