The opposite. Less unsprung weight transfers less energy to the springs, shocks, bushings, and therefore the chassis.

On my car, the difference between the light RSe05 competition wheels and the OEM 10 spokes is about 7 lbs/wheel.

When the RSe05s go on in the spring, the effect on the car is magical - the bumps almost disappear relative to the winter setup.

The BEST thing you can do for your car is get lighter weight wheels and tires. As an added benefit, since it takes less force to spin them, your gas mileage will also improve slightly.

 

The above explains why a 17" setup also is high effective on a GP3, we talk about 30 kgs less rotating mass, the Renault Megane carbon Wheels are 20 kgs further, I think they could fit 5/112. Simple mathematics, the major questions in this league are wheels temperature over 70 Degrees and to keep them !

 

Got it (finally). That's something I might consider when I need new tires on my JCW Clubman then.

 

Isn't there a weight posted somewhere for the GP3 steel calipers vs the Clubman aluminum calipers?

 

The Motoringfile article quoted says about 22 lbs more for the GP over the JCW hardtop. But it doesn't specify that's just the brakes.
