Flat tire!

Hit a nasty pothole last night. Impact so bad I was sure the tire popped. But the inflation pressure stayed up and there were no signs of any problems. Thought I dodged a bullet.

This AM though noticed right front tire low, around 29psi vs. the 38psi reported for the other front tire. Drove on heading to dealer and after a few miles the low tire warning came on. Drove 10 miles to dealer and when I parked car looked at tire and could see a small bulge in sidewall. Wheel appears ok.

Getting a new tire installed. Just had 2 new tires installed around 2K miles ago. That's the bad new. The good news is at least I won't have to replace both tires. They have not worn enough to have that much difference between the new tire's diameter and the "old" tire's diameter.

Don't you just love potholes? They're atop the list of dreaded tire & wheel damage creators, with recessed manhole covers being a close second! I HATE manhole covers, and being a long time civil engineer it's very obvious to me that some people should not be designing sewage collection systems merely by their positioning of the manholes! Manhole covers SHOULD NOT be located within the travel lane where tires normally run! Rant over! :-) Glad things worked out for you.

New tire installed. A bit over inflated -- 40psi vs. the other side at 38psi. But in a hurry to get to the office and I didn't notice the tire pressure difference until I was already on the freeway. The car drove ok and twice when I stopped once for picking up a lunch and then again when I reached the office I adjusted the tire pressure down some. Think I got the right front tire pressure very close to the left front tire pressure.

I'll know tonight when I leave the office and can check the tire pressures.

At any rate the car feels ok.

All I have to do from now on is remember where that stinking pothole is.

Here's a resource for your MINI favorites google file in case the next pothole does more than bust a tire. I've hired them twice and they do perfect work while you wait.
