Charlie,
Please enlighten me as I do not understand what your chart is attempting to portray.

Example: I take my '15 MCS (JCW tune/sport mode) from a dead stop and aggressively accelerate, run the gears and attain 80 mph. My average speed will be around 45 mph and I am sure that the mpg will be in the 20's or below. I will be happy to test this assumption.

A more accurate study would be to chart a MEDIAN CONSTANT speed with mpg/ per gear. That would entail driving on a level/smooth surface, holding a constant speed/gear. Not sure if the MINI info will do this, perhaps resetting the trip odometer will. I will check tomorrow.

One could assume that the "MINI average" was implemented to assist certain drivers to modify their driving habits for various reasons.

Wasn't there research done at a college in England that used averages in a totally inaccurate report, on a study, recently?

I am just curious regarding what other folks are seeing for mileage and speed.

Coming from the B38, I was initially startled by the relatively low mileage from the current Gollum. I normally drive around Cape Anne at low RPM - 2k in 4th is about right (36 mph), but when I get on Route 128 and leave the island I cruise quite a bit quicker - e.g. 3.2k in top.

The majority of my driving is quite gentle, and the B38 returned 34.6 as an overall average. Despite my tendency to feather-foot, the B48 is plateaued at 28.7. It makes me curious.

I do like to see patterns in data, and I had a theory (mentioned earlier) that I might find that there would be an inverse relationship between mileage and speed, and a limit that would keep the sum under 70.

Since trouble1943 and FDR both exceed that my theory is disproved.

I am also amused to notice the relatively narrow range of average speed. I still hope that some folks from the western states may weigh in with higher average speeds, and perhaps some city-dwelling Miniacs may contribute with lower speeds.

We shall see!

Cheers,

Charlie

Charlie,
Thanks for the reply. Your B38 engine had a displacement of either 73 or 91 cu in (3 cylinder). The gross weight (US) was listed at 3329 lbs. The recorded average mileage (US) was 44.3 mpg.

The B48 (4 cylinder) is listed at 132 cu in and has a mileage estimate at 34.1 mpg, a gross weight of 3450 lbs (F56). No stats were given for the JCW, only the S. If anything, one would assume that the JCW would weigh more (brakes, etc).

Torque, acceleration, and top speed were not even close.

Perhaps this could explain the differences in your mpg.

I coded that feature out and enabled "Sport" mode at startup with the bimmercode app.

Charlie,
This is just FYI.
I know this request is for the F56 JCW and you probably don't want to muddle your data, but I thought I would provide my mileages just for comparison:

2012, MCS manual. This includes time on the track
24.6 mpg
33.2 mph

2004 MC CVT (mostly stop and start, short haul city driving:
20.2 mpg
17.9 mph

In looking at your data that you have collected, these seem to fit in, although a little on the low side. Interesting given the big differences in the cars and their engines.

Charlie, My JCW is an automatic with paddle shifters. Health limitations now dictate the type of trans my car can have.

I have the R58 JCW with Stage 1 tune. 28.5mpg city (29 mph). 34 mpg hway (53 mph). Overall about 30 mpg. My car is quite a bit lighter than the F56 JCW (2700 lbs I think). 1.8L engine.

If you were wanting to note. Mine has the Burger JB4, catless etc and some other mods. The more HP the worse gas mileage and tire wear I get.

Sort by average speed - note the manual versus automatic column!

Are you just asking for stats from a random tankful? Or is there a cumulative setting on my car I’m not aware of? Obviously my stats vary quite a bit from tankful to tankful.

On your information center go to the vehicle icon > vehicle status > trip computer.
This will show you the cumulative info from the last time the trip computer was reset. In my case it was 2121 miles.
