JCW CravenSpeed w/ Whalen Short Shifter Tips
CravenSpeed w/ Whalen Short Shifter Tips
Received a PM asking some questions on this, figured these points would help others. Not a bad job and the result is awesome.
good luck!
- Download the NM shifter instructions for a good walk thru of how to disassemble the center console.
- Buy a trim tool kit from amazon - will keep you from marking up the plastic.
- Buy the CravenSpeed retaining clip. Tougher material. Have some white grease/Teflon grease available
- when putting in the C.S. clip, be sure the retaining clips are pushed in secure. I locked them in place with a small piece of zip tie pushed behind the clip to ensure it stays under tension - overkill, but wanted it to stay
- When replacing shift bushings, push out the metal center, then remove the rubber grommet. Throw them away, you won’t use either again.
- To remove shifter, first pry up the ring with the “sport”switch. Then disconnect the electrical switch connection. Then grab the shift **** and pull up straight, it takes some force but moves
- once off, you can remove the ****, boot and boot frame by rotating the frame until tabs come free from the ring. The boot is stapled to the frame.
- The boot is held to the silver part of JCW shifter by a black circular clip and glue. Pull that apart, very easy
- When pulling out stock retaining clip, there are access holes you can put a screwdriver in to push in the 3 clips. If you lift up and push in each clip, you can do it yourself, otherwise get a third hand.
- when disassembling console, the Nav unit comes out easily by undoing the two screws under the trim and then lifting slightly and pulling towards back of car. Undo the electric clip and then route connector out of recess
- i bought a new leather shift boot and planned to staple that to frame after pulling off the original. Did not need to do that - the original JCW boot was tall enough to use because the shifter is short, and even stock height works just a bit tight tight.
- make sure you get a collar with set screw to pinch boot to bottom of shift ****
- overall an easy job, took me longer as first time doing a mini, if I did it again I’d probably do it in 30 minutes vs over an hour.
good luck!
