Sounds like a lot of money for an exhaust with problems. They should replace the ones that stick. I'd be pissed. It's a glorified noisemaker right?

It got some good reviews from the staff at Motoringfile, so I went ahead and got it. It's sounds great when working properly. More of an annoyance than anything else when you have to reactivate it.

It adds 8 horsepower, and 10 FT LBS of torque. At least that is what it did on mine, verified by a dynamometer test, the glorified noisemaker is a bonus.

Well that's something I guess. But if it's dealer installed why won't they replace it under warranty if it doesn't work? Like a bad fuel pump. Isn't it like $2000?

The are available as an aftermarket item and they are a lot less expensive than having the dealer do it. As I have not had a problem with mine I can't really address your question. I went with an authorized BMW service center and had it installed for about $600 less than the dealer installed price.

Bringing this thread back to life. Just picked up my 2017 JCW with Pro exhaust two weeks ago and started having this issue. Anyone find a fix yet?

I have had mine since February with no issues which does not help you, but whomever you had install it should be able to rectify it. Does the bluetooth transmitter indicate that it is on?

Since January without issue for me. I wonder if it has something to do with the installer since mine was done by the same shop as KYDan.

I've had my JCW with the JCW Pro exhaust for a little over 3 weeks and have not encountered this behavior. What does the remote do when this happens? Where is your remote located?

I will just happen to notice my pops in sport mode aren't as loud, and when I look at the remote, the red light had stopped flashing. I keep the remote in the cupholder, which I keep two iPhones synced to the car's bluetooth in the other. I was thinking the two phones could have been interfering with the exhaust remote? For the past 60 miles I have kept the remote in the door sill thinking that could be the issue and the problem has not returned. I will post an update in the future.

Let us know if that is indeed the issue, it may be what has caused the same issues with other owners' remotes. I have not had any issues with mine, but I prefer the remote to be in the driver's door pocket. I used a closed cell noodle that had a perfect sized hole in the center and I trimmed it to fit with a sharp knife. It just sits firmly in there and works perfectly and I now have my cup holder back for other necessities.

Had if over 6 months and love it. Drove it A LOT with no issues. Only hiccup I had was low battery. I changed it and now keep some spares with me just in case.

Good info. Thank you, Dan. Still no problems after an additional 100 miles. I'm starting to think I was going crazy and there was never an issue??

Mine seems to close on its own around my building in downtown Dallas. There must be some kind of interference occurring because if I'm out on the highway, I never have any issues.

This thread is a jinx. I hadn't experienced an issue for 4 months, then after reading this thread yesterday the damn thing closed on it's own 5 times.

In the old days we used to have exhaust "cut-outs" that were manually operated. Might still be the way to go!

Count me in now. I installed mine at the end of June and had this very problem last night and this morning, first time two days in a row.

Last night - I was driving in Philly in some heavy traffic. I was using Google Maps with the Bluetooth on.
This morning - Again, I was driving in unusual heavy traffic as I-95 was completely shut down and millions of cars got diverted onto local roads. I was NOT using Google Maps and the bluetooth on my phone was OFF. Every driver around me was on the phone.

I do not usually drive in heavy traffics like the one last night and this morning. This incident makes me think that there is a signal interference caused by surroundings.

After having the flap close by itself every two minutes, I have finally conceded and unplugged the control unit so the flap is open at all times. While I always drive with the flap open anyway, I do miss being able to keep it closed on early morning start-ups. I just cannot see driving all the way to dealer and dropping it off for this issue right now, and will wait for my first oil change. It does blow my mind that in this day and age and advancement of blue tooth technology, the collaboration between Mini and Akropovic could not come up with a simple on/off Bluetooth switch, especially for the price they charge for this unit.

Fortunately, I have not had any issues with mine, but please post what you find out from your dealer just in case I and others have issues at some point. Did you order your unit with the JCW PRO Exhaust or was it installed after you had the car?

Absolutely! Had it installed in my MCS before taking delivery back in mid-July. Love the sound and the increase in horsepower. Added benefit is turbo kicking in at lower rpm's. Zero problems with flap closing on it's own.

From the unit itself, or the connection in the car?

And mine went 3 months with no issues, now it does at least 5 - 10 times per trip. Dealer has no clue as to the cause, neither does MINI. I am not happy given that the damn thing costs so much and I chose it so it would be MINI warranty covered.

Dan,

I had the dealer install the exhaust before I took delivery in August.
