JCW GarageInterested in John Cooper Works (JCW) parts for your 1st Generation MINI? This is where JCW upgrades and accessories for the Cooper (R50), Cabrio (R52), and Cooper S (R53) MINIs are discussed.
Just completed the install of a pair of Schroth (discovered it is pronounced Schrot...H is silent) into my 2006 GP1. It was pretty straight forward. For those GP folks, the most difficult part is getting the center rear seatbelt receptacle installed. The trick (as I discovered) is moving the center heat shield forward by loosing the 4 bolts. That give you a tiny bit of room to squeeze your hand up between the frame and gas tank. It helps to have small hands here... You know, Trump sized (sorry I could not resist). Anyway...I used a tiny bit of double sided sticky tape on the washer and crush ring to hold them in place, then placing the nut between my index and middle finger and had my son turn the main bolt to get the threads started. From there we used a 90 degree swiveling ratchet wrench on the nut and had my son tighten the main bolt. Easy peasy.
You also have to remove the rear panels. They are actually one piece and come out with a couple of well place tugs. The center foam accessory tray lifts right out. Had to trim the accessory tray a bit and of course the side panels too. Dremel come in handy here. So here are the pix of the final product. First pix shows the belts hidden under the cover, by removing the cover I can have the belts installed in about 2 minutes. Enjoy
