JCW Engine super knock - Please help
Hey guys,
This is my first post on this very useful forum.. allow me to introduce myself:
Im Karrim from Mauritius and i am currently driving a 2008 FJCW imported from the UK.
I have done several mods to my car all of them being the usual ones such as:
-K&N replacement panel filter
-Forge motorsport FMIC
-Evolve decat DP
-Evolve re-map
I have also had the timing chain done as well as the turbo water pump.
Where i live (Mauritius) temperatures are always very high (in the region of 30 degC), and since i have re-mapped the car i have constantly been experiencing engine knock.
I therefore contacted the guys at Evolve who sent me another version of the map to cater for the ***** fuel (Ron93-95ish, no one really knows what we get tbh) we have here. Unfortunately, this made little difference as knock is still occurring past 4500rpm on 3rd gear and above.
I am really getting desperate now with this little car, so thats why im here to seek information on the potential cause for this very loud knock.
Would you think that this is entirely due to the combination of remap/**** fuel? or could it be that my engine is coked-up?
Any suggestions/ideas are most welcomed.
Thanks

Perhaps you have done this, but if not may I suggest inspection of the plugs?
If the cylinder temperatures are excessive there should be some evidence visible in the form of color, deposits, and possible erosion.
If these symptoms are obvious I would take that as an urgent sign that a remedy is needed before the engine is damaged.
The map is the simplest explanation, but if that is difficult to change a colder plug might help. Usually changing to a step cooler in the plug range is recommended when folks do a pulley to raise the intake pressures, which I do not see on your mod list.
Just a thought.
Cheers,
Charlie

One step colder plug is a great suggestion however if it was me and it has been mix 2gal of E85 at your next fill up. I suggest this before plugs to rule out any other issues other than plugs like a bad knock sensor or something rattling around causing the knock sensor to activate. A 2gal mx of E85 is plenty safe and will produce approx 97 octane with 91. The combination of the alcohol and cooling produces very high active octane ratings for direct injected engines. This will rule out any possible knock caused by ignition.
