Changing factory fogs to aftermarket

Has anyone changed out the factory fogs to the aftermarket variety? I have a pair of PIAA 1000x. Wondering if it be too hot.

hmmmmmm

are you talking about the fog lights, which are mounted low and built into the lower fascia on both gen

or actually the driving lights which sit on brackets b4 the grill?

The later would be a fairly simple swap and I doubt you'd have heat issues as there is a 'stand off' to any body work and many different lights have been mounted to factory brackets with no reports of issues - I've done several brands myself.

on the former (fog), given they are built into the bodywork I'd expect such a change to be a significant issue with heat just one concern . . . mounting is going to be a fabrication job if you are talking an in place replacement

Yeah I was talking about the lower ones not the ones mounted in front of the grill. Thanks for the info! Doubt my financial officer(wife) would approve a fab job.

I would not attempt such unless you plan on using the OEM wire to a relay to close the circuit then having the direct power to the lights from another 12V source such as the battery/connector under the bonnet.

When it comes to electrical stuff, the MINI is a bit fussy and you could even burn out your BCM. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Maybe a bulb upgrade is in order. Only as long as you don't go to a higher wattage creating more heat.
