JCW V.S helix 380's
Which one's should i go with for jans tune? Ive heard the helix's were maxxed out at 198whp....eeekk....help me out...

According to Jan the Helixs are harder to tune.

I've heard numerous people say the Helixs max out sooner than the JCWs, but I say either would work if you're just doing "stage 1" mods. (The Helix injectors flowed me past 200whp.)
And if you're doing a head and other big buck mods, then you'll want larger injectors than 380cc, so it's a moot point. *shrug* It's probably a question of a couple HP, so make the cost difference decision on that (what are they, $40 cheaper? Again, *shrug*) |
Yeah im at 197 right not and lean up top quite bad....

While the Helix 380's look and feel like quality pieces [and part throttle drivability is very good too], I feel that for most modders going straight to 440cc/min injectors is the way to go.

On another note, I've heard that the JCWs and Helix injectors have different spray patterns, since the JCWs retains the OEM spray and Helix is made by Bosch. |
According to their site, The helix injectors are designed to split the flow so that each stream is directed toward the intake valves.

where can you get 440s?

Looks like OutMotoring sells the JCW 380s for 290. Are there any vendors that list them for less?

Regarding the fuel trim; the stock ECU can handle trimming out 440's, trust me, I did it on my single turbo setup R53, which is much more efficient than the M45 blower setup. What the ECU can't do is trim out anything larger than that. |
So you think going straight to 440 is the better idea? Even w.o headwork etc.?

My 2005 MCS w/ basic mods (15%, CAI, exhaust) started to run out of fuel at 6500 rpm with JCW 380s. BTW, check out my thread titled Dimsport Software in Roundel Magazine. In the Bimmer Lite (MINI) column, Dimsport software is recommended for MINIs with any mods to get them to perform optimally. The author does not mention a specific tuner but I think he was referring to RMW:
"The bottom line is that the only way to get a Mini to perform optimally with any modifications, the ECU needs to be custom-tuned. One effective way to do that is with Dimsport software: Find an outfit with it, set up an appointment, and they'll cook up an ECU tuned specifically for your application." |
Stupid question: as you increase the flow rate of your injectors, is there a loss in gas mileage?

Wow, I wouldn't run 440s untuned for any length of time at all. You weren't using the stock tune with the turbo, were you ryephile? I think it makes sense to buy the 380s, since you can easily re-sell them at any point for a marginal loss. snM3 – not stupid, yes you'll probably get decreased mileage switching to larger injectors and not tuning for them. Tuned, it'll be similar mileage.. IF your driving stays the same.

I have not experienced any issues with the Helix injectors they are the same as the JCW injectors from what I have seen on the dyno they are Bosch style same as the 440cc I use .... the 440cc do require more tuning to get it right as they need to be scaled. I think here is where there might have been confusion.:thumbsup: |
So im not going to be robbed of power? Or capable tuning?
