I stumbled upon this thread with great interest and noticed that you can now build and configure the JCW tuning kit along with the automatic transmission on miniusa.com
Example:

Although I just checked my dealership's website for MINI accessories but it still states this though:
The Tuning Kit can only be install on MINI Cooper S with manual transmission.
This item can not be ordered online. Please call us to place an order.

Jim,

I'm going to be doing the same thing. I bought mine off the showroom floor. The car had JCW wheels and brakes. I kept the brakes and removed the wheels.

I'm really interested in installing the JCW and have my warranty.

I'll let you know what they say tomorrow.

Called the dealer this morning. They knew what I was talking about but didn't have any item schedule when they expect it to arrive.

He said that they would know immediately because Mini informs the parts dept when they are available.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

you are looking at the accessories section. There are no restriction checks in that area of the website.

Meaning what? If I configured it with the automatic trans it couldn't be made by ordering it that way?

that is correct. The JCW stage 1 kit is a dlr instaaled option and the dealer and MINI parts control its availability. The accesories section on-lin is incorrect on that issue at this point in time. The JCW stage 1 kit for auto MCS is still held except for a few that slipped thru (like mine)

Just out of curiousity, how is yours doing? Is the only thing wrong that it won't pass emissions?

Thanks,

Mark

have not had an emmisons test yet BUT it runs perfectly and my gas mileage has bumped back up to before the kit was installed.

What happened to your gas mileage that made it go back up to before the kit was installed?

Thanks, just trying to get some opinions so once they release the kit, I can justify if it's worth it or not.

Have either one of you had your car dyno'ed? Is the performance gain a noticeable one with just seat of your pants? Even though you don't have the kit complete (ecm wise anyways) would you do it again?

I ask because I have a DDM air intake and really didn't think a cat back was going to do anything (performance-wise) I was always under the impression that an exhaust won't help a turbo'ed car unless it was opening up right from the exhaust.

Point is, that really leaves the ECM and perhaps it would be worth waiting for someone to come up with a good ecm programming.

Thanks guys,

Mark

Mini ME--you were the first and I just followed your lead.I may be doing the most chirping about this but you made this happen for me and I thank you.

No Dyno . However, the BUTT DYNO says big difference. As soon as I fired the engine and drove away the day I picked it up, I knew I had a "different car" under me.

Had a chance to drive an identical MCSa ( same wheels, sunroof etc, hence same weight) loaner a friend had when his MCS manual was in for service.

I drove first and noticed the difference right away. To not skew his impression, I did not say a word. I then let him drive as he had been driving the loaner for 3 days and was quite impressed with the automatic version.

Within 30 seconds, he said NOT EVEN CLOSE..the JCW car is waaay faster.

Another friend of mine had his MCs manual JCWed shortly after drving my car. He is thrilled and thinks this is how the MCS should be out of the factory.

Its alot of money but you get alot of car for the money. Can not compare to other modded cars BUT I am very pleased with this car's seamless performance and the comfort of having a warranty, too.

Hopefully soon for those still waiting and wanting. Orangecrush--both MINIME and I have the full kits incl the ECU (which I think makes the biggest difference of the components as it also changes the trans shifting pattern in non sport mode). Gas mileage dropped 2 mpg at first but after a few months now back up to what it had been before. May have been a seasonal thing as I live in a cold climate)

MINIME--you da man.

Thanks for the opinion. You're right, a couple of grand is a lot of money for the supposed 19whp it is suppose to make.

Your answer "it's the way that car should have come from the factory" is exactly what I was looking for.

I was skeptical about putting a pulley on my last mini but realized it was just enough to make me think "that's the way this car should have come from the factory".

Well, guess I need to be a little more patient.

Thanks,

Mark

Mini ME...Thanks!

I drove Mini ME's car the other night...WOW!...it was smooth like butter...step on the gas and you go...I mean...GO!

I'm getting one for my car...It's at the top of my food chain mods.
