JCW Spoiler/Wing

Sorry if this already exists somewhere, but I have an R56 on order (its nearing the Bermuda Triangle on the Maersk Wind as we speak) and I was going to get a JCW spoiler from Morristown MINI in Jersey. I noticed that they didn't have the spoiler listed for the 2nd generation so I sent an email asking if the 1st generation spoiler worked for the new one or not. This is the reply from them in its entirety:

"they are completly different in size and shape. the R53 spoiler will not fit on the r56"

So now I have a car coming with a JCW aero kit but no spoiler, and now I don't know where the best place would be to get one. I didn't order it from the factory because I heard it was cheaper to buy it from Morristown and it was an incredibly easy install. What do I do now?

You can still order one from them. You can install it in about 20 minutes

Ordered from Morristown, and it was only $520 delivered to my door. In case anyone else is wondering, they don't have it on their website because they said it is "still too new for there to be much demand for it." But it is available in black, white and I think they said silver, but I might be wrong, since I stopped listening once they said they had black, which is what I need. And the cap that some people talk about needing: that is only for the 1st generation. 2nd generation doesn't need it.

Just be aware, that most people who own the JCW spoiler for their R56 have issues with a high pitched sound coming from the spoiler.

It usually starts up at about 55 miles per hour.

I had mine taken off, tested and no whistle. When put back on, it would whistle. Plus, there used to be a thread on here about the noise from the spoiler.

Some people have been successful; at taping the spoiler in areas that were causing this.

I have not done that because I rarely drive. Maybe 5000 miles a year, and most of that is within the city of Chicago.

So, I rarely get above 25 MPH.

I recently installed a JCW wing on my R56.

Point is, I have no sounds at all. I spent the weekend driving over 1400 miles at an all over average of 83 mph and never heard any noises... windows up or down.

Must be on some of them.... or perhaps just the new style?

"Most"? What is this based on? I've never ever had a single issue with mine ever. No noise, nothing.

I installed my Roof Spolier few month already, don't have any issue with the high pitch sound.

However; my R56 was one of the first lot from Factory Feb 07 and used to has high pitch sound.

The issue cause by the antenna and got replace with new antenna see photo for more details

i had mine put on when i took delivery on dec. 27th as well as my jcw aero kit, and mine does whistle between 55 and about 80 but frankly, not enough of a problem for me to want to take it off! I love the wing, and if I start to hear it, I just turn the radio up a little louder and the problem is solved! The JCW wings are few and far between, so if you're a fan the little bit of a whistle shouldnt be a factor, and you have to understand, air is going over and under a thin piece of Carbon Fiber, it's gunne give off some whistle

Coen,

Not trying to hijack the thread but I may be selling my JCW kit on my R56....

Minicooperwill,

If you haven't found a JCW wing for sale, I've got mine up for sale...

I got mine from Morristown MINI a while back, so all is good. My question to you is: WHY?

Nothing special, the wing is great, it's just a hair on the rice side for me. I'm 45, not 22 (no offense to those that are....lol)

It's me, not the wing.

That is a funny post

I laughed out loud when reading your post about being 45 yrs old and not a 22yr old asian kid!! It is the exact same thing I was thinking when we were looking at our new R56 JCW Mini at the dealership and I remember telling me wife words very simliar to that...

Yeah, I know.... like I said, I love JCW stuff but for me, the wings just a bit too much.

I'm so used to mine that the "regular" one looks so plain now. I'd say go for it, you ricey bonehead!

I bought the wing at the dealership and put it on the car. It just bolts right on in about 15 minutes. I have a Red car with black stripes and had black wheels at the time. The wing has a lot of silver on it and nothing else on my car was silver, so the color scheme just didn't match for me and I put my stock wing back on. My dealer was great and took the wing back because the car was so new. I think if you had silver wheels like Coen de k's white car, it would look great.

Special note: I do think that white one is a great set up even though I have Chili Red.

For those of who have the wing, does it make any difference with respect to how dirty the boot gets? I can have to car spotless, practically drive around the block, and the boot will be dirty. I was curious if the airflow around the rear of the car was any different wth the wing? I'm hoping I could justify the purchase based on how much cleaner the car will be
