i bought mine at Morristown Mini and am very happy with it....more power and torque than I'll ever use probably...very nice sound, but it's noticeable on the highway...don't pay over $2100 for labor and parts....otherwise, I would go aftermarket unless you like the JCW bling and warranty...now the JCW suspension, that's sweet too and makes your car look great....lower than the adverstised 10 cm. after it settles down.....

Did you order a car with it? or have Morristown order & install the parts? If so, how long did it take?

You realize the MSRP on the parts alone is $2100.

Morristown MINI is like one of the only dealers on Earth who sells parts at less than MSRP. My dealer wants $2300 installed, and that is a good deal in my book. I've seen guys on the forum paying $2700 or more!!!

$2,300 installed is a very good number, assuming that price includes tax.

Do any of you think that MINI essentially detuned the introductory S motor because they knew they'd sell every car that they built with the intention of bumping hp to the JCW tuning kit numbers in 2 or 3 years?

I think you mean 1 cm.

And yes, Morristown's price is< $2025 installed. Good bargaining ammo for those asking > $2500.

Here's a recent review:

I am also interested in laying down the the cash for the JCW Stage 1. It will cost about $2300 (same dealer as rattmobbins - Sandia MINI) which is pretty expensive when you take into consideration all of the different tuning options out there for the R56 already... Alta is offering some very tempting components. In the end, I settled on the JCW kit for a couple of reasons:

1. Warranty

2. Build Quality - while I am sure Alta's stuff is well made, I find some comfort in knowing that JCW components are engineered in MINI's own playpen.

Might be worth the drive from massachusetts. I wonder if MoP or Inskip would match that?

JCW tuning kit

on the JCW tuning kit. I had the opportunity to test drive an S with it, and I'm sold. It felt like it had more power and much smoother power delivery (breathed easier). Thanks MINI, for sucking the money out of my wallet!

I certainly don't think the R56 is factory detuned. If they did that, they would have released the stage 1 kit when the car came out, instead of 8 months later. They could have been raking in an extra $2100 a pop this whole time!

I don't think so. The press release said they would be out "later in the year". Since the 6 speed kit JUST came out, I would guess that the auto kit will be out before the end of the year, but not much sooner.

The internal dealer datasheet for the JCW Stage I kit says it's only for hardtops with manual transmissions.

Well, they promised one for the R53 automatic, too, but folks in the US never got it due to some regulatory drivel in CARBafornia

We're ordering a Cooper S JCW ... 2 dealers told us that the JCW Tuning Kit can only be installed by in Coupes by dealers... not port-installed. True?
Thanks, Harry

If you order with the car, I don't think the dealer would be installing it. But if you order the kit after you receive the car, the dealer will have to install it.

Thanks for the reply. We're ordering it with the car, and they are telling us that it is not installed at the port but at the dealer. Anyone else on this one?

The stage 1 JCW kit is dealer installed, regardless of whether you purchase the kit when you order the car, or after you have the car.

Thanks for this info. One more question... regarding JCW brakes... the dealer is saying that there is no need for this option: "Do you want me to charge you $1400 for red-painted calipers?" Is is true that the '07 MCS has the JCW brakes as a standard item? Thanks again!
