Redlining my JCW

Folks,

I'm not usually like this, but I want to find out what the top speed for my JCW is. I am also interested in doing some "Solo" racing. Any thoughts in the greater DC area?

(Not Route 50 in Chantilly, either)

Take it to Capital Dragway or do a trackday at Summit Point?

You'll not have enought distance to get to your top speed at the drag strip or Summit point either one with your MINI. You will need several miles to top it out and that would take open road which is not safe, legal, and real expensive if you get caught. Read what the top speed is in a magazine and call it a day.

Most tracks won't allow you to run a drop top.

In addition, top speed is usually just that...written up and unless you've changed your rev limit I believe that you won't be able to surpass what the posted top speed is and i'm not sure if there is a speed limiter built in either...which also would prohibit faster speeds unless modified.

I'm not sure if the JCW computer upgrade changes the rev limit. Mine is right at 7k. Miniusa.com even posts the top speed ratings on all current model Mini's

Not to entice you to try, ok maybe, but a local club member was clocked at the track at 155 in a modded MCS.

If there is a speed limiter, I haven't hit it yet ! I'm sure that my comfort zone will run out before my JCW runs out of speed!

I dont know if the JCWs have different limits, but if your car is coming from stock, and hasnt been messed with (computer wise) it has a governor on it for 139 mph (what I have been told + I read about it).

bingo

more power does not mean you have a higher top speed.

you are always going to be limited by your final drive and you gears.

I moved from California to VA, outside Middleburg....just south of Leesburg, where I lived for a year and a half. This was before i had my license but i remember overall, VA had very good pavement quality. Now I'm living back in California. The fastest I've ever gone in my Works Cooper was about 132 mph. This was on highway 1....which runs along California's coastline. I heard somewhere that the top speed on JCW's was about 140. I've never tried to reach top speed however. With the drag coefficient, the stock suspension, the soft top, the mini's small size, and the police...it's hard for us cooper convertible owners to max these autos, safely and legally. I enjoy my cooper's acceleration and exceptional handing more than it's top speed.

Just my bit of opinion...

When I got my 06 MCS last year, I took it on the autobahn near Frankfurt to Ramstein.. The fastest I went was 126-130, I was the one to slow down.. I was the one that got scared.. Taking possession of your mini in germany is an awesome thing

Talking about excessive speed here on NAM is not tolerated.
So be warned, you are being watched.

Your MINI has no limit on speed, your MINI has a top end on revs/redline. It will bounce, throttle back at redline, whether in first gear or 6th gear.

True, but always double, and then triple check. A local track we always thought said, "No," but when Hooked on Driving went to that track, we triple-checked and they said since the MINIs have built-in protection, it would be allowed.

That was my funnest day driving yet....
